Chapter 6: The Crossing

1227 Words
"Ouch~!" It hurt so much! Slowly opening my eyes, the dappled sunlight through the trees was almost blinding. Instinctively, I raised my hand to shield my eyes. Through the gaps between my fingers, I saw towering ancient trees. Was I dead? I wondered, rubbing my sore bottom as I stood up, leaning on one of the trees for support. "If I can see the sunlight, I must still be alive!" I wasn't sure whether to be relieved or disappointed. I brushed the dirt off my clothes and couldn't help but marvel at the situation. It was unexpected to find such a well-preserved forest in the midst of a bustling modern city. I took a deep breath; if it weren't for my disheveled state, the scene would have been quite pleasant. Looking down at my beautiful white dress, it was now a mess. The once pure white fabric was now yellowed with dirt and covered in stains. I gave a self-deprecating smile, never realizing how kind I could be. I moved my limbs to make sure I wasn't injured. It was strange that I had fallen from such a height and yet was unscathed. I looked around in surprise; I seemed to be in the middle of the forest with no sign of the cliff. Shrugging off my confusion, I started walking forward. I don't know how long I walked, but I began to feel dizzy and lightheaded, probably from exhaustion. I felt an overwhelming urge to sleep. I slapped my forehead and kept going. If fate had spared me, I was determined to survive. Splash splash~! The sound of water caught my attention. Grateful for my luck, I quickened my pace towards the source of the sound. After pushing through a dense thicket, I saw a clear stream. "So beautiful!" I couldn't help but exclaim at the natural beauty. The stream was like a transparent ribbon set against a backdrop of green grass, shimmering in the sunlight. Unfortunately, I didn't have the energy to fully appreciate the scenery. My throat was on fire, and I desperately needed water. Kneeling by the stream, I drank deeply, no longer caring about maintaining a ladylike image. After quenching my thirst, I splashed some cool water on my face. Although I was still hungry, the feeling of life seemed to return to my body. I took off my elegant Chanel high heels and dipped my aching feet into the cold water. My feet were already blistered. It had been a long time since I had walked so much. Used to being pampered and driven around in luxury cars, I now felt an unprecedented sense of peace. Maybe I wasn't suited for the glittering life of the big city after all. Suddenly, it hit me. This place was peaceful and beautiful, but there was no food to sustain me. I couldn't possibly spend the rest of my life here. A wave of hunger hit my brain. I couldn't help but moan, "Oh God! Is there anyone out there to save me? I'm so hungry! Whoever brings me food right now, I'll marry them!" The only response was the sound of birds flying away from the bushes. Sighing, I lay back, thinking I might starve to death here. Just then, I heard footsteps approaching. I opened my eyes to see a beautiful girl running towards me. I sat up in surprise. Wow! She was gorgeous! I couldn't help but drool. Her beautiful red hair made her delicate skin look even more translucent. Before I could get a good look at her face, I was interrupted by the sound of shouting. I complained, annoyed that my moment of admiration was disturbed. The girl seemed to be fleeing from a group of people behind her. The little bit of justice I had left swelled in the presence of such beauty. I stood up, ignoring the pain in my feet, picked up my Chanel, and ran over to grab the girl's hand, pulling her into a crevice between two large rocks by the stream. I quickly took off her coat and threw it into the water, all in one smooth motion. With a big smile, I ran back to the crevice and gave her a reassuring grin. "Sir! There's no one here!" "Search again! The catch got away, and he was definitely here just now." "Sir! Look, his clothes. Did he jump into the river?" A man pointed to the clothes floating downstream. "What?" The man walked over. "Those are his clothes. Damn it, this wretched person actually committed suicide. What bad luck!" He spat and turned to leave. After waiting a bit to make sure they were gone, I looked up at the girl's delicate face. She had long, narrow eyes that looked a bit dazed, adding to her charm. I thought to myself, these must be what they call "peach blossom eyes." Thankfully, I'm not into the same s*x; I just appreciate beauty. Uh! The girl seemed a bit tall. At 165 cm, I'm not short for a woman, but she was a head taller than me. Suddenly, I noticed her expression was a bit unnatural. Following her gaze downward, I realized that the low-cut dress had exposed a bit of her chest due to the earlier chaos. I saw a hint of shyness on her charming face. Hehe! So cute! I grinned thick-skinnedly, "We're both women, it's okay!" I adjusted the dress's neckline and walked towards the grass outside. "Sit down and rest for a bit! By the way, why were they chasing you?" I patted the grass next to me, no longer caring about the beautiful dress. If Ye Jun saw how I was treating his gift, he would probably be furious. Hehe~ "......" She knelt down next to me but didn't answer. "Are you mute? I'm sorry, I didn't know you couldn't speak!" Poor thing, so beautiful yet unable to talk. "Can you write?" I continued to ask. She nodded gently. A strand of hair fell on her face, and I brushed it away. As I pulled back my hand, I suddenly froze. Why was I so natural in my actions? She also looked at me questioningly. Please! I don't know either, it just felt right. Suddenly, I realized something was off. The girl's clothes and the people chasing her earlier, they all seemed to be wearing costumes from a period drama. But it didn't look like a movie set; there were no cameras or crew members. I felt a bit panicked and asked nervously, "Uh! I'd like to ask, what dynasty is it now?" I knew it was a crazy question, but a voice inside me told me I should ask. She picked up a dry branch and wrote 'Shengyuan Dynasty' on the ground. "What... what year is it?" I looked up at her hopefully. She seemed a bit confused but still wrote 'Shengyuan 1011'. I was momentarily stunned. I urgently grabbed her hand and said, "Isn't it 2007 now? Have you heard of China?" She shook her head in confusion. I slowly released her hand, forcing myself to process this incredibly unbelievable truth. Had I, like a novel protagonist, traveled through time? Or had I crossed into a dynasty that doesn't exist in history? Oh my God! Was fate really going to t*****e me like this? I was speechless.
