The moment the scout’s body hit the ground, something cracked open inside my head. Not pain at first. More like a pressure change, the kind you feel before a storm hits. The mark on my palm pulsed once, twice, then burned bright enough that I almost dropped to my knees. The silver dust spilling from the man’s mouth rose like smoke, twisting into shapes that made no sense until they made too much sense. Eyes. Not human. Not wolven. Something in between.
