Chapter 11: The Truth About Maya

250 Words
Lina didn’t move for a long time. The words on her screen felt heavier than anything she had read before. "I watched you leave her." It replayed in her mind over and over. Like a voice she couldn’t shut off. She stood up suddenly. “No… I didn’t leave her like that,” she said out loud. But even saying it didn’t calm her anymore. Because the memories were no longer blurred. They were sharpening. Lina went back to the bridge. Not because she wanted to. But because she needed to know. The air felt the same as before. Cold. Heavy. Unforgiving. She stepped closer to the edge. And for a moment, she just stood there. Silent. Then it came back again. Maya. Rain. Shouting. But this time, something new appeared in the memory. A third person. Standing slightly behind Maya. Watching everything. Not moving. Not helping. Just waiting. Lina’s breath caught. “No…” she whispered. “You were there…” The memory shifted. Maya turning. Seeing someone behind Lina. Her eyes widening. Not fear of Lina. Fear of something else. Lina stumbled back from the edge. Her heart was racing. “It wasn’t just me…” she whispered. “There was someone else.” Her phone buzzed immediately. Unknown Number. One message: "Now you see it." Another followed instantly. "She wasn’t alone." Lina’s hands trembled. “Then who—” she started. Buzz. Final message appeared. "Ask yourself why you were the only one who remembers it differently."
