At first James thought he misheard her.

But there could be no doubt now – not the way Isabel was looking at him, with big eyes full of hope, anticipation, and just a little fear. Hearing the guarded she-wolf profess her love sent his heart soaring, until it was pounding violently against his ribcage as it accelerated to a gallop. Isabel’s skin was flushed bright pink, and she couldn’t truly look him in the eye. Her gaze kept flitting up and down, almost as if she thought James might reject her.
