No Place At Home

The first time I saw our father witness the behavior, as Simon pulled her closer to him and sniffed her neck while saying that she smelled like honey, vanilla, and jasmine, I thought Dad was going to lock her in a cell and rip out the throats of my friends. Even if it was an innocent move and Simon was simply shocked by her scent. It was that night that changed the course for Emma. Being a protective alpha and parent, Dad brought his concerns to my friend's families. It was the royal family and the shifter council who decided that Emma was probably the destined mate of the four of them. However, how she would be the mate of a bear and wolves, let alone be recognizable at such a young age, was confusing to all.

It was determined that Emma would be sent away to boarding school for her good, as well as that of her four potential mates. If Emma stayed close to them, none of us would live out our youth as we should. The guys would be increasingly more possessive, refusing to let any boys, even those her age, near her, and they would refuse to date girls their age as they waited for Emma to come of age. Goddess-gifted mates can sense when their mates are with others, and in many cases, it can lead to excruciating pain, the closer they are in proximity, the greater the pain. Considering that Simon is the youngest and is six years older than Emma, this was not reasonable for any one of us. So, Emma was sent away as quickly as arrangements could be made. I have always suspected that Emma felt like she was not welcome at home because of how everything was handled. After all, she still has no idea what we are, let alone that she is probably destined to be with four alpha shifters.

While the guys still asked about Emma, they did turn into your basic adolescent, then young adult, shifter assholes that went through girlfriends faster than your random basic. Emma being Emma however, excelled while away from the pack and family. She was sent to boarding schools in Europe, her school for the main part of the school year was in France, while her summer schooling locations sometimes varied. The first couple of years she was brought home so that she could spend time with the family, but while Simon was easily kept away from her since he was from the local bear pack, it was difficult to keep the triplet princes away from her since our pack territory and the palace were both inside the gates of Veiled Moon Shadow. When they were in the same room as each other they were drawn to one another like bees to a flower, and my siblings, father, and I were going to do everything in our power to make sure she wasn’t pollinated before she was 18 and had the chance to know if they were her destined mates. Besides, it was the law, both shifter and basic, that she was underage and untouchable.
