Chapter3

Walking along with the guard who came to inform me, someone unknown to him came to see me, and I was given just 2 seconds to meet with him. That sounds like a threat, or better still, will I call it a commandment? The thought and imagination of how frightened the person could look send several shivers down my spine making me weak as I walk slowly along the guard. “ Will you hasty your step, or do you want me to help you painfully do that?” The guard yelled at me, waking me from the many thoughts running through my head. Getting to the visitor's room, the door creaked open, and a tall, imposing figure stood in the doorway with his eyes still. He was dressed in a tailored suit, with his dark hair perfectly styled, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to bore into my soul, while my heart kept hitting deep and deeper. I couldn't help my mind read, “ I'm sorry, but we can't suffer this, Emily; those unfriendly eyes aren't giving any hope! But wait!” My heart paused as he began to speak. At first, I thought it was Natasha's rich brother, who must have come to gloat over my misfortune. My heart sank deeper than ever each time I felt the reminder that I couldn't escape this misfortune that had laid on me, and I felt a wave of fear wash over me. But as the man stepped forward, I saw that he was a stranger. He gave the signal to the guard to leave us, which the guard did with all due respect. Leaving the both of us standing with my head bowed low and my hand holding my arms tight. “Sit,” he said to me as he sat down, lit his cigarettes, and popped them. I sat down but summon the courage to ask him who he was "Who are you?" I asked him, trying to keep my voice steady and my eyes blinking. The man smiled as he popped another round of cigarettes and lit it again. This time, I looked up and saw his eyes crinkling at the corners. After some moment of silence from him, he spoke up. "My name is Jasper," he said. "And I'm here to make you an offer, an offer to save your life." I raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite myself as his words hit me harder. I doubted if I heard him properly or if I was alluring. "What kind of offer are you speaking about and how will it save my life?" I asked with curiosity to hear from him. Jasper stepped forward, his eyes locked on mine as he stood there for a while without a word from him. "Be my contracted wife" he said, his voice low and husky. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut by his words. Who is he to think I'm a slut? Asking for a contract marriage from me is like selling myself to him. "What? How dare you to ask me such! Is that an offer, or are you asking me to sell myself to you!" I exclaimed with all the anger in me. But he didn't reply but remained silent. "Why would you want to deal a contract with me?" I asked him again waiting patiently to hear from him Jasper smiled again, his eyes glinting with amusement as his glare met mine. "Let's just say that I'm willing to overlook your...checkered past. I never meant to buy you, but I just wanted to marry you," he said. "In exchange for your hand in marriage." I felt a wave of confusion wash over me. What was going on? Why would this stranger want to marry me? And why did he have the full confidence to speak that to me? But then Jasper dropped the bombshell. "If you agree to marry me, I'll make sure you're released from prison; Marcus will have no access to hurt you anymore," he said. "You'll be free to start your life over." I stared at him for a while, my mind reeling; how did he know Marcus? It was a tempting offer, but I knew I had to be careful. What did Jasper want from me? "What's the catch?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady, with the determination to get reasons from me. Jasper smiled again, his eyes glinting with amusement. This time, he popped his cigarette more. "Oh, there's no catch," he said. "At least, not one that you'll mind." I raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite myself. What did Jasper mean? And what did he want from me? Was he sent by Marcus to test me, or did he come alone? But before I could ask any more questions, Jasper stood up, his eyes locked on mine as he popped it directly into my face, sending me coughing several and grabbing for air. "So, what's it going to be, Emily?" he asked. My eyes mind more, he knows my name? This crazy! "Are you going to accept my offer, or are you going to rot in prison?” His questions sent me to think deeply about Marcus and what he had done to me. He had betrayed me, chosen someone else over me, and now he was trying to ruin my life but here a stranger dropped a contract. I felt a burning desire for revenge, to make him pay for what he had done to me. I thought about all the times we had spent together, all the laughter and the tears. How could he just throw it all away like it meant nothing? It made me feel a wave of anger wash over me, and I knew that I had to do something to get back at him. I looked up at Jasper, who was still standing in front of me, waiting for my response; I wouldn't want him to treat me the way Marcus did to me. " Why do you want to marry me, if I may ask?" I asked him, trying to understand his motives which he is rendering the offer to me. Jasper smiled, but his eyes remained guarded. "Let's just say that I need a wife, and you're the perfect candidate," he said. I raised an eyebrow, unsatisfied with his answer. "What do you mean?" I pressed hard to get a clear reply from him. But Jasper just shook his head. "I'm not going to tell you any more than that," he said. "You either accept my offer, or you stay in prison. The choice is yours." I thought about it for a moment. I could stay in prison and try to clear my name, or I could accept Jasper's offer and get out of here. But what did I know about Jasper? And what did he want from me? I thought about Marcus and what he had done to me. I thought about how much I wanted to get back at him. And I knew that I had to take a chance. "Okay," I said finally, looking up at Jasper with a sad face. Then I closed my eyes and said. "I'll do it." Jasper smiled, a triumphant glint in his eye as he clapped his hands gently. "Excellent," he said. "Here's the contract. Sign it, and you'll be free to go." I took the contract from him, scanning it before signing it. As soon as I did, Jasper nodded and turned to leave. "Wait," I said, stopping him. "What about Marcus? What will happen to him?" Jasper turned back to me, a cold smile spreading across his face. "Don't worry about Marcus," he said. "He'll get what's coming to him." I felt a shiver run down my spine as Jasper turned and walked away. What did he mean? And what did he have planned for Marcus? I followed him out of the prison, my mind racing with questions that I couldn't ask Jasper out of fear of what his reply could be. We walked to a sleek black car, where a driver was waiting to take us away. As we drove through the city, I caught a glimpse of Marcus standing outside the prison, his face twisted in anger and fear. I felt a surge of triumph and satisfaction. Ha! Marcus was finally getting a taste of his own medicine, but not yet the way I wanted him to; this is just the surprising part. But as I turned back to Jasper, I saw that he was watching me, a calculating glint in his eye. "What's going on?" I asked him, feeling a sense of unease. But Jasper just smiled, his eyes never leaving mine. "We're just getting started," he said. The car sped off into the night, leaving me wondering what I had just gotten myself into. As I looked out the window, I saw the city lights blurring together, and I felt a sense of trepidation. What did Jasper have planned for me? And what would happen to Marcus? I was trapped in a web of confusion and revenge, and I wasn't sure how to escape. The thought of Jasper being an enemy to me sent me shivering as I began to think what made me arrange his offer. The feeling that Jasper was hiding something couldn't stop, I was sure of it. But every time I tried to ask him a question related to it, he would just smile and change the subject or yell at me slightly. Finally, after it seemed like the whole day, we arrived at Jasper's home; it was a grand mansion, which I will rate as a maleficent full percentage. I felt a little awestruck as I stepped out of the car and followed Jasper inside without a word. The interior of the mansion was just as impressive as the exterior, with lavish furnishings and artwork that seemed to be worth a fortune. I felt a little out of place as my heart still ticks, but Jasper just smiled at me and took my hand to his, leading me through the mansion to somewhere around the house. There were so many questions burning through my heart that I would love to ask him, but before I could ask him any questions, he stopped and turned to me slowly, with a mischievous glint in his eye as he stared at me. "I have a meeting to attend to," he paused, then stared at me again. "And I want you to come with me." I raised an eyebrow, curious if he was trying to show me off to his friends. "What kind of meeting ?" I asked him with a cool voice. Jasper just smiled. "You'll see, all you need now is to take your bath, eat well and relax," he said. "Just trust me." I hesitated for a moment, but then I nodded. After all, I had already agreed to marry him. What was a little meeting?
