CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2027 4:52pm Present Day / (00:22:35:17) It was so dark it took Marcus a few minutes to realize he had dipped into the game. He was standing on a hard surface and the space was uncomfortably warm. There were no other sensations. He pulled a light from his pack and powered it up to find himself in a cavernous, empty warehouse. The narrow beam died in the gloom in all directions. Nothing broke the shadows. No light. No sound. No Mike. Marcus turned in all directions to find his new partner, but only darkness accompanied him. This was something new. Entering the game together, should have brought them to the same place.
