CHAPTER NINE — AKIRA’S JEALOUSY

784 Words
The training hall smelled of iron and sweat, the air heavy with the echo of clashing swords from earlier sessions. Sunlight streamed through the tall, arched windows, glinting off the polished stone floor. But the light did nothing to soften the sharp tension that hung between them. Akira waited near the center, arms crossed, her stance rigid, golden eyes like molten fire. Every muscle in her body was taut, coiled as if she might spring forward at any moment. The faintest flick of her wolf’s aura brushed the edges of the hall — a warning Levi could feel even from across the room. “You.” Her voice cut through the silence like a blade, low and dangerous. “You’re breaking the laws of our world. And you’re breaking him.” Luna set her books down deliberately, the thud of the leather-bound covers against the bench sounding louder than it should. She straightened, chin lifted, shoulders squared. Her gaze met Akira’s without flinching. “I’m not breaking anything,” she said, voice steady, resonating with quiet confidence. “What we share… it’s real. You can’t dictate that.” Akira’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of something unspoken passing between them — frustration, warning, and maybe… fear. She stepped forward, boots heavy against the stone, each step echoing like a heartbeat in the tense silence. “You think this is a game?” she demanded. “Smiling at him, getting under his skin… it doesn’t come without consequences.” “I know exactly what it does,” Luna replied, matching her step for step. Her gaze never wavered, unwavering in its calm, its certainty. “It reminds him that he has choices. That he’s more than what the world expects of him. And I won’t apologize for that.” Akira’s lips pressed into a thin, hard line, jaw flexing as she paused a mere foot away. “You have no idea what you’re stepping into,” she said, voice low but sharp. “Loving him is forbidden. He—he has a duty, a path. You’re interfering—” “Interfering?” Luna’s voice rang clear across the hall, calm but edged with steel. “I’m not interfering. I’m standing beside him. If loving me is a crime in your world, maybe your rules are the problem — not us.” Akira’s jaw tightened further. She took a step closer, lowering her voice into a growl, but it faltered under Luna’s unwavering stare. “You don’t know what it costs—” “I do,” Luna said. Her words were soft, almost intimate, yet they cut sharper than steel. “I know it could be dangerous. But I also know that hiding from it, pretending we don’t feel this… that would cost us more.” Levi stood at the far edge of the hall, every muscle rigid. He didn’t move, didn’t intervene, but his presence radiated a tense, quiet storm. His gaze flicked between them, wolf instincts surging at the subtle threats in Akira’s posture. Akira’s eyes followed his, then returned to Luna. “You’re reckless,” she spat, a flash of her wolf’s aura coiling like smoke around her. “And you’re afraid,” Luna whispered, voice soft, almost intimate, but carrying clear through the charged hall. “Afraid of what he wants, what he could be. I’m not afraid. I never will be.” For the first time, uncertainty crossed Akira’s face. A shadow flickered in her golden eyes, subtle but undeniable — a crack in the armor she had spent years building. Luna tilted her head, resolute, letting the silence stretch, letting the truth of her words sink in. “So, if you want to warn me, fine. Go ahead. But I won’t step aside. Not for laws. Not for fear. Not for anyone.” Akira’s chest rose and fell sharply. The tension in her shoulders remained, but her stance softened imperceptibly. Without another word, she pivoted, boots echoing against the stone floor as she left, leaving only the faint scent of her wolf behind. Levi’s gaze lingered on her retreating form, tension coiling in his body like a spring, before drifting back to Luna. Relief softened the lines of his face just enough for her to notice. Luna’s lips curved in a small, confident smile. Her hand hovered near Levi’s, almost instinctively. “She’s going to have to get used to it,” she said, calm, unwavering — and utterly unafraid. Levi’s wolf growled low in his chest, and he reached for her hand, fingers brushing hers. In that silent moment, both of them knew: the world could challenge them, test them, even threaten them — but together, they were unbreakable.
