Chapter 1: Scream of Terror

588 Words
It’s been a week since they found the body and everyone seemed to forget it already. Kids came back playing outside at night and police cars stopped patrolling the streets. No one made it into a big deal, except for me I guess.     I have always been into mysteries, solving them has been a dream of mine. I had so many questions bothering my mind that no one else seemed to think of. Like how the body got there and who placed it there. Why they did it and who did it.     My eyes roamed around the place, I know someone in here killed that person. There were at least twenty of us in that place and no one else could’ve done that unless they knew our plans. It was impossible to know, we made it a secret, even to our parents.     My thoughts were interrupted by the screams coming from the crowd. All the students of our school were in the auditorium to witness the basketball game.     I’m not really a fan of crowds but my best friend Max insisted on me watching him “Crash the other team,” his words, not mine. I planned on leaving before the game could even end but Mikaela was beside me, her arms were linked to mine as she always does and it would just make me stumble if I tried to remove it.     “Did you see that? He scored two points!” She screamed right at my ear. I nodded to make her stop shouting even if I didn’t see it. It was a game between the seniors and the juniors. Some people think that we will win, but I doubt that. The juniors may be smaller, but they’re faster and have a six point lead that just turned into eight.     “Can you introduce me to him later?” She asks. We haven’t been friends for that long. I’m not the kind of person who makes friends easily but it started when we became partners in a project. Since then, she’s been clinging on me like a dog to its owner.     A buzz went off indicating the end of the first half of the game. Other players went to their seats to drink water and rest while Max walked up to the bleachers. He tends to show off sometimes. Girls shouted as he walked but he didn’t pay attention to anyone. He stared at me as he smiled playfully.     “Did you see me score?” He asked excitedly.                “We did! We did!” Mikaela answered, loudly. She was never really taught to be silent or to even whisper.     “Actually, I didn’t,” I answered honestly. Max smiled. He still doesn’t know me despite being friends for years. I frowned when he took my water bottle and drank from it. “You have your own water down there and you still drank mine,” I said but he just smiled again.     “Do you need a towel Max? I have one here,” Mikaela asked. Come to think of it, this is the first time I hear her whisper.     “I should go back,” he says and walks away. “Oh Max, this is Mikaela,” I shouted. He smiled and waved before going back to the court.     The game continued and the junior’s only had a two point lead. The Seniors only had a minute to win. John passed the ball to Max and he stood on the three point field but before he could even take the shot, everyone screamed again but this time, in horror.
