Chapter 7: End of A Life

522 Words
It’s like a storm came in the room, it was a complete mess. Lily was lying on the bed with her arms spread and her eyes open. Indigo ran over to her and cried, hugging Lily’s lifeless body while I stood at the door, astonished. ? Who in their right mind can do this?     The pillows and blankets were scattered everywhere, some pillows were ripped while the one beside Lily had a sign of makeup on it. My luggage was also opened, it seemed like someone was looking for something.     The kill seemed merciless and unexpected. Lily was suffocated by the pillow but it’s very evident that she fought back.     My hand trembled as I took my phone from my pocket and tried to call 911 when I remembered that the place didn’t have any signal. Why would a school arrange a trip to a place with no signal when there’s a serial killer?      “This is your entire fault. You did this to her,” Indigo said, furious. My eyes started to tear up, how come I never noticed this? Was she killed the moment I went out of the room?     “I can kill you right now,” he whispered and stood up. He took the vase placed on the bedside table and broke it. He held onto the broken glass, as he looked at me, enraged.     He moved closer and closer but I didn’t know what to do. My feet seemed to be bolted to the floor and my mind is too occupied by Lily’s death to think right. In a matter of seconds, the glass would be through my chest, ripping my heart and taking every blood I have in my veins.      He was about to stab me when someone stopped him. “Calm down Indigo. You don’t have to do this.” It was Max; his voice was cold and deep. I looked back at him, in shock. His face stayed still and calm despite the blood coming out of his hand and his eyes were sharp and cold like his voice.     “She deserves this. She killed Lily,” he said, not taking his eyes off of me. I can’t say anything. He’s furious and in sorrow, that’s why I know that he meant it. That’s where it hit me if I hadn’t gone out of the room Lily wouldn’t be dead. If I stayed in the room I would be the one who’s dead, not her. I was clearly the target of this person.     It’s true; everything he’s saying is true. I removed Max’ hand and pointed the blade right at my chest.     “Do it, kill me,” I said, staring back at his eyes. My life is worth less than Lily’s. She has a loving family who expects her to go home and I deprived them of that. The last memory they will have of hers is her lifeless body, lying in her coffin.     That’s where I saw the shock in his eyes. He’s contemplating but he shouldn’t. It’s my fault and I will own up to it.     If I do it myself, maybe he won’t feel guilty. I raised my hand, ready to push the glass when Indigo did it himself.
