“Breathe... Just breathe in through the mouth out through the nose” I repeated to myself afraid that if I don’t, I’ll forget how.

I’ve spent 7 hours and 14 minutes on a plane with two layovers and as we touch down at the Airport, I couldn’t help but let tears fill my eyes. Trying to hide my bruised face and busted lip I put my hood back on, grab my bag and walked off only to be greeted by Ally’s warm arms wrapped around me

“You’re safe now Kenzie” she said, trying to reassure me, but I couldn’t help looking over my shoulder wondering if he will ever find me.

Ally takes my bag from me and we head outside to the parking garage to get into her cute little mom van. We ended up going to a cute little café to catch up after the years we spent apart, thankfully she decided not to ask what happened even though I’m sure she already knows.

“Ally…” my eyes start to burn with fresh tear that I’m trying to hold in “Thank you for everything, if i..it weren’t for you id still be there and I would have stayed, you have been my rock through this.. I owe you so much” before I can continue, she cuts me off

“Kenzie, we use to be best friends and we might not be as close as we were in high school but I still care about you and you know you don’t deserve any of that crap, you ran from us years ago to get away from the abuse at home and ended up in the same if not worst position, you owe me absolutely nothing.” Then the dam bursts, she pulls me into a hug, and we stayed like that for five minutes, she gently pulls away grabs onto my hand and says

“let’s get you home, it’s getting late, and we still have a good 30-minute drive”

“Definitely, all this traveling is making me crazy, after everything I’m in need of so comfy pajamas and some good ice cream” I say

“Kenzie girl I got you covered; I stocked that freezer with your absolute favorite.....chocolate chip cookie dough” she looks over at me with a huge smile I am beyond happy to have my best friend back.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, we pull into a long gravel driveway, right in the middle small town which also happened to be the middle of nowhere. It is getting dark and the only light we have is the glow of light from inside the house, I step out of the car to grab my things and start following Ally to the front door, when it opens and out comes a tall dark silhouette of a man. I stop where I am, I can’t move, I feel like I can’t breathe, tears start running down my cheeks.

“Kenzie!... Kenzie!” I heard Ally call but I was in a state of shock as I stare at the figure in the dark.

“Kenzie is just Hunter, you’re okay!” I heard her say and I finally took a deep breath of air, Ally pulled me in again as I stood crying with relief. We made it inside the house and Ally was in tears

“I am so sorry; I should have told you he wasn’t suppose to be here but he came back early, and it slipped my mind! I didn’t mean to scare you like that!” She kept saying over and over,

this time I was the one comforting her

“it’s okay Ally, I’m okay, s**t happens” trying to make her feel better. It’s been a such a long stressful day and all I wanted was to relax. She gives me a quick tour of the place and then shows me to my room upstairs where I settle in, change into my soft silky pajamas, put my few clothes I have away and I stuff my duffel bag with my money into the closet. As I make my way back down I find Ally in the living room looking through Netflix for a movie, I decide to go straight the kitchen to grab us a tub of ice cream and two spoons, I was about to head back to the living room when I caught a glimpse of Hunter walking into the kitchen. He’s in just a pair of shorts, his long dark brown hair dripping from the shower he just took, scanning his face it’s been so long since the last time I saw him and I honestly never thought I would again, he still has the most beautiful ocean blue eyes, and his beard looks to be grown in without any of those weird splotches, I continued to scan further down noticing how built his body has gotten.

“Mackenzie” he calls, and I snap out of my trance and realized how dumb I probably looked staring at him with my mouth wide open.

“I’m so sorry” I say as my face heats with embarrassment he just stand there looking at me with that sexy smirk of his, I grab the ice cream and spoons and dart back into the living room where Alison sat waiting with a new rom-com on.

A few hours later, we finished our movie and two tubs of ice cream it’s super late and Ally decided to take off and get herself home to her husband and her 2 little devil spawns, we say our goodbyes and she’s gone. It feels weird being here, I haven’t slept somewhere else in years and I’m honestly to afraid to fall asleep so I curl on the couch with a nice warm blanket and start another movie, I’m hoping at some point my brain will just shut up and I’ll be able to sleep, but I highly doubt it.
