CHAPTER FORTY-ONE
Sam landed on the outskirts of a small town in northern Texas. It only took a few minutes of flying but she had reached her limits. It was in the middle of a hot day but to her surprise no one had seen her land near the main road into town. At least it looked like a main road. She was the size of her normal self and the second she touched down, the armor disappeared.
“Childress?” she asked as she read the sign on the road welcoming her to town. “What a weird name for a town” she said and wandered down the road. She glanced at the American flag that was flying at half staff. She couldn’t help but get a shiver down her spine. Like every other place in the country, the streets were deserted. Everyone appeared to be afraid to even go outside.
