After the Party

791 Words
Remi's POV I am usually composed and collected, but tonight my patience was worn thin. My body was undergoing changes and adapting to my new abilities, and my mind was overwhelmed. Due to a piece of glass cutting through my glove, when I had touched Arlissa I was able to see her memories and feel her emotions. Though she is a wicked vampire, she is also very unintelligent. She had killed many innocent humans in her time for sport, based on her memories. She loved the thrill of the hunt, and often would torture them before feeding off them until they lay lifelessly. To feed off a human is forbidden by the vampire council 250 years ago, as is having a human slave. Vampires are to get their blood from a blood bank, which spares humans from cruelty and abuse. After the incident, I had taken the time to explain to my father in his study as to why I acted so brutal, and about the memories I saw. He forgave me and promised to banish her from the clan, but asked me to control myself so that I don't lash out. He had prepared several gloves for me in different colors with the same delicate lace design. Since I was young he knew what I was and took it upon himself to save me from the streets and to protect me from being exploited by the other supernaturals. "Remi, you are so close to controlling your powers. We will train again during our trip." My father said, I nodded in response feeling exhausted. I left his office, and waiting for me by the door was an unphased Dante. "Would you mind if I escorted you to your room, Remi?" He spoke quietly. I was surprised he was not afraid of me after the events that took place. Though he used to be the one I confided in most, and he was my safe space, I had learned not to divulge in him. I had once overhead him talking about how worthless the humans are when I was younger. I used to have a crush on him until I heard him complain to others in the clan about being responsible for babysitting a human child, which was a reference for me. Before hearing these things from him, I considered telling him my secret. That I am not an ordinary human, but his words were the confirmation my heart needed before making the mistake to trust him. I came from a humble manner, but I kept my dignity and established my self respect. The cat is out of the bag now though, because our clan knows that I am not a simple human being, but they have yet to figure out what I am. "I suppose you may. Dante, please do not ask me any questions. I am exhausted, yet I still have to go to my room to finish packing for our journey tomorrow morning. " Dante quietly remained by my side his eyes hinted a sense of betrayal. Not a word was spoken as we reached my corridor, just the sound of our foot steps coming to a stop. "This is far enough. Thank you." I say to him hoping the unease in my voice wouldn't be on full display. "Remi... You are a woman now, and I have been waiting for the right time to say this..." I watched him intently as he began stuttering his way through the words. He scratched his ginger hair, and then wiped his boyish face. "I am in love with you. I know this may be difficult for you, but I am going to ask your father for your hand in marriage." Dante blurted out the words, and I stood still trying to process the information in order to give a response. "Goodnight, Dante." Rude, perhaps. It was all I could think to say for a situation like this. I quickly entered my room and closed the door and locked it. Hoping that it would put a wedge between me and the tension I had left behind. I could still sense his presence on the other side of the door. Deciding to ignore it, I began packing my clothes for our trip tomorrow. I know it will be a very awkward journey with Dante and my father, but I would remain distant until I could figure out my complex feelings. I am excited for the adventure that awaits me. I peaked out my window where the view of the garden was exceptional. The full moon shone brightly, and in this moment I felt butterflies in my stomach. I could sense that change was headed my way. Fate was calling me to the unknown.
