Damon's POV
I was dreading today's meeting with the Remington Clan. Dealing with those bloodsuckers fills me with rage. To think my father is willing to negotiate and work with these monsters is preposterous. Especially since their kind is the reason my mother is gone. It was 5AM when my alarm went off, and I rolled out of bed to get a quick shower, then dressed myself in dark blue jeans and a light blue button up. I finished brushing my teeth, and quickly combed my wet curly hair letting it fall loosely just above my eyebrows. I hurriedly made my way down stairs to the pack cafeteria to stop my stomach from causing a scene. I grabbed some breakfast, and headed towards my father's meeting room. As I entered the room, I noticed my father was seated at the head of the table looking through some pack paperwork. I wish he would rely on me some more and give me the chance to prove that I have the potential to be a good Alpha. I graduated top of my class though my secret that I couldn't shift was hard to keep. Most other Alpha's were given title when they reach 18 years old, but my father wanted me to meet my mate first.
"They should be here any moment. Please mind your manners, Damon." He acknowledged me with a smile and continued playing with a pen.
"Of course, Dad." I replied with sarcasm hidden in my undertone. It did not go unnoticed, because he knew me too well. He opened his mouth to speak, but Beta Randall and future Beta Noah came in and opened the door allowing the leader of the Remington Clan to make his way in the room.
"Demetrius, what a privilege to see you. I was not expecting your alliance agreement, nor your request to meet." My father stood up and spoke as the vampire, Demetrius, made his way into the room taking a minute to shake my fathers hand. Soon after he entered a ginger man smaller than everyone else in the the room walked through the door with a clenched jaw. My focus was diverted when I picked up on the sweet scent of strawberries and mango. The scent seemed to fill the air, and it caused my body to tremble with need to find the source. My wolf was on edge pacing in my mind. My eyes examined the door with anticipation, and soon a tiny young curvaceous woman stepped into the meeting room. I found myself captivated by her forest green eyes which were eccentuated by long thick charcoal eyelashes. Her pink lips parted looking like fallen rose petals, and I couldn't help but stare at them longingly. A blush crept up on her cheeks as she stared back at me, her face depicting mixed emotions. She clenched her green frilly dress, and I noticed the green gloves she was wearing.
"Son... Son..." I had completely forgotten the world around me due to being so transfixed with the beauty infront of me. I hadn't noticed my father was calling me. I was about to speak, but I couldnt take my eyes off of her and my mouth ceased to function properly. I knew immediately that this was my mate.
"Remi, are you alright? Come my daughter. Take a seat next to me." It seems that she had snapped out of her daze quickly in comparison to me. She listened to Demetrius and sat beside him, which happened to be across from me. Reality sunk in and I remembered she was that creatures spawn, and I would rather die then be mated to her. While the meeting continued, I noticed that she did not have the scent of a blood sucker, her smell reassembled a human, but something was off.
She smiled at me warmly causing my heart to flutter. I was annoyed by this mate pull. If she was human, that meant she was too weak to be my Luna. And if she was a vampire, that meant she was my enemy. Either way I knew that I would have to reject her. I felt rage engulf my heart as the emotional turmoil raked havoc through my brain. I noticed the ginger vampire trying to capture her attention and he put his arm around her. She shifted uncomfortably, and looked away from me. I could not help but feel that I was losing control and bitterness filled up inside of me. The strong emotions were bringing out something inside of me, causing searing pain to each cell in my body. I noticed that I was growling lowly, unable to to help that it was escaping my lips.
"Damon! Damon, do you hear me? What is going on? I told you to act right and out your prejudice aside!" My father mind-linked me with worry and annoyance in his tone. I made eye contact with Demetrius and a look of knowing appeared on his face, as if he understood what was happening. This only enraged me more as I convulsed in my seat. I began to feel hot and the pain got immensely worse as I felt my teeth enlongate while my face contorted in an unnatural way. Most of my senses were cut off due to the pain, but I could hear my bones snapping and clothes tearing to shreds. I am finally shifting, but I never thought the first shift would be this painful. When my vision cleared I saw the ginger vampire holding my mate close and then pushing her behind him as we locked eyes. The thought of him touching her caused me to let out a thunderous growl, and I held nothing but the intent to kill in my heart. How dare he touch what is mine. My father and our Betas attempted to intervene.
"Out of my way or I will kill you too." The command was strong enough to make the betas and even my father bare his neck, their wolves submitting to my powerful arua. Demetrius stood on the side lines watching the scene unfold rather calmly and a smirk painted his face. My focus went back to getting the scummy ginger blood sucker away from my mate. I jumped over the large table, and made my way to the corner that they were at. I drew back my arm in attempt to punch him, however my mate pushed him out of the way as my fist came down connecting loudly with the wall causing a large whole. Her forest green eyes were now amethyst orbs glaring at me with a challenge. I took my fist out of the wall and reached out to her gently grabbing my delicate mate who shook with fear or maybe even anger, and I sniffed along her neck which seemed to calm my beast.
"We need mate. She is ours. Nobody will touch what is ours." My voice laced with my beasts growled out towards everyone in the room. Suprise filled their worried faces, but Demetrius' face was vacant with emotion. His eyes held understanding. My mate took me by surprise when she grabbed me by the fur at my neck and forcefully pulled me down to eye level. Any little contact with her skin sent tingles erupting throughout my body and I was certain she felt them too.
"You will calm down or I will make you." Remi said with a stern voice soothing my beast to the point I thought he was hypnotized, and he started acting like an obedient pup. My body slowly started morphing back to my human form, and I stood naked in front of my mate not bothered by anyone else in the room. Her amethyst eyes turning a shade darker depicting the lust she was feeling as she licked her plump lips. Her little fangs looked rather cute as she then bit her lip seductively.
"Your son is a rarity. A lycan beast. We had thought they died out 200 years ago, and it seems that he is fated to my daughter. She too is a rarity, being that she is a dhapmir." Demetrius broke the moment with humor hinted in his voice.
"Oh gosh!" My mates eyes turned back into their earthy green color as a pink blush tinted her cheeks. She quickly hid her face with her hands that had the silky green laced gloves. She looked rather innocent and cute even after being embarrassed by getting lost in our moment. It seems she had forgotten the presence of others around us. I chuckled causing the parts of her face that her hands couldn't cover to turn red.
Alpha Luke's POV
I was used to Damon's stubborn personality and his anger issues. I knew that losing his mom at such a young age played a huge part in his behaviors. He wasn't able to move forward and to process that hurt. He never blamed me verbally, but he frequently defied me in order to get rid of some of that anger. Perhaps I never knew the best way to handle his outbursts because I had always blamed myself for him missing out on having his mother. I also know that not being able to shift took a toll on him, and he spends most of his days frustrated and lashing out on others.
I woke up stressed this morning because I knew this meeting was already challenging due to Damon's prejudice towards vampires. I was busy working on paperwork when Damon came into the meeting room. I tried to enforce Damon to use his manners, but I was not sure I got through to him. He is 23 years old, and I wanted him to start acting like it.
"Alpha, they have arrived. Noah and I will bring them in momentarily." My Beta Randall mind-linked me. As the door opened and the betas walked in, I sensed a change in the atmosphere. Demetrius walked in next and we began our introductions. Then in came his second in command. I glanced over at Damon I noticed quickly that his eyes changed to a deep black and he began sniffing the air vigorously. His chest was heaving and his focus was elsewhere. The second in command started a conversation with my betas and introduced himself. A petite shy young woman stepped into the room and I noticed that my son was no longer himself. I tried calling to him in order to get his attention, but he was transfixed on the female. I thought he would be able to calm himself, and we all began getting seated at the table. Trying to alleviate the tension and take control of the situation, I dove into the topic of the alliance. I began periodically glancing at Damon, but he remained uninterested in the conversation. He was solely focused on the female infront of him. I noticed the Second in command suggestively put his arm around the female, and she began to shift uncomfortably. At this moment my son began acting like a wild beast in front of our guests. Concern raced through my body as I noticed my son was beginning to shift for the first time. His face depicted absolute pain, and he began to morph into a beast. The sounds of his bones cracking silenced everyone in the office, and we all watched with fear as he stood up. I noticed that Demetrius was rather calm for such a situation.
"Randall, you and Noah need to help me intervene before we have a bloodbath!" I quickly mind-linked my Beta. He and his son rushed to my side as I stood infront of Damon. Murderous intent swirled within his black furious eyes.
"Out of my way or I will kill you too." The cold and unrecognizable voice of my son was powerful, and my wolf Bruzer instantly bared his neck in submission along with the Betas. My son leapt over the table towards the second in command, and he prepared to punch him with force, but in the matter of seconds the tiny female had pushed the vampire away and now stood in front of my son whose fist was nestled in the concrete wall, and her fearless eyes had a new color to them. He pulled his fist out and a large whole remained on the wall.
Damon reached out to Remi, and surprisingly she accepted his advances without fighting back. Damon held onto her protectively and sniffed her neck causing her to tremble. His black eyes grew darker looking like two black holes.
"We need mate. She is ours. Nobody will touch what is ours," Damon's voice was laced with that of his monster's rasped out. Seeing how my son didn't calm down Remi stood on her tippy toes and reached out and grabbed him by the thick fur on his neck and chest, and pulled him down to eye level with her effortlessly. I was impressed by the strength and the bravery. Diverting his attention back to herself she said, "Calm down or I will make you." Her voice was stern as she scolded him, and matched the authority in his.
My son was never one to handle a challenge lightly nor was he one to obey, but to my disbelief she managed to get through to him.i almost laughed in that moment as the tension broke. He morphed back into his human form and stood bare infront of everyone in the room. He did not seem bothered by anyone else in the room because his undivided attention remained on his mate. I was happy that he was fated to someone who seems to be able to put him in his place and straighten him out.
"Your son is a rarity. A lycan beast. We had thought they died out 200 years ago, and it seems that he is fated to my daughter. She too is a rarity, being that she is a dhapmir." Demetrius spoke with a chuckle. I couldn't begin to even fathom that my son was a Lycan, but it explains why his mother had all the abilities of a werewolf, if not even more, but she didn't shift. While this eventful morning gave me a lot of answers from the past, it had left me more questions about my Abigail and why she hid such a secret from me.
