Derek looked at the strange man in confusion. He felt betrayed. Tony had made it seem like defeating the beast was all that mattered, but he had never told Derek about the implications. He shouldn't have trusted a random man.
But Tony wasn't a random man. He was the man who had saved Derek from the beast when Canaan was invaded. Yet, not once had Derek wondered why Tony had saved only him. Why hadn't he saved the others as well?
And then he realized the truth.
Tony, the werewolf hunter, had saved him so that he could take on the beast, kill it, and become the next Beast of Armageddon—who would, in turn, be killed by someone else who wanted the beast dead at all costs.
Only one person would want to kill this beast so badly because the beast had taken away her loved ones.
Erica.
Oh no. This isn't good, he thought as he looked at the strange man.
"I need to speak to Erica," he said.
The man laughed horribly and wickedly. "Why? To warn her that you're the beast? Do you think she would believe you? Because she once loved you? For all she knows, you're dead, Derek."
Derek lashed out at the man angrily. He threw a punch at him, but the man swiftly dodged and brought out his claws as he transformed into a werewolf, ready to return to the fight.
Derek gasped and immediately abandoned his anger. "You're a werewolf," he muttered.
He felt his body becoming weak. He was still healing and wasn't strong enough to fight a man, let alone a werewolf.
The man smirked. "I'm not just a werewolf. I'm an Alpha. I created the Beast of Armageddon." The Alpha introduced himself.
Derek gasped again, but this time, he felt anger surging through him, his adrenaline commanding him to fight.
"You're the origin of this problem! You created a monster to destroy humans!" Derek screamed at the Alpha.
The Alpha smiled. "Humans have always wanted to destroy our kind—the werewolves. My predecessors sought peace and invited the humans, who posed as hunters, to a peaceful negotiation. The hunters agreed and chose a location, but our kind didn't know it was a trap."
He paused.
"After the so-called peaceful negotiation, only a Lycan and I were left alive. You can guess the rest. I transformed the Lycan into the Beast of Armageddon with just a few intriguing words of mine. I'm its master now, and together, we will make humanity pay for what they did to my family," the Alpha explained.
Derek wasn't buying the story.
"That doesn't explain anything! You should have just destroyed the hunters. You're a villain!" he shouted.
"I am no villain compared to Tony. At least I protect my own. But Tony, after making you fight the beast, still went ahead and dated your lovely Erica," the Alpha said.
Derek's world scattered.
He didn't believe what the Alpha was saying. It couldn't be true. The Alpha was just trying to mess with his mind.
"Erica still loves me. She can't be with Tony," Derek said.
The Alpha laughed, obviously enjoying Derek's distress.
"It's been five years. She has moved on. She's fallen in love with Tony now, and together, those two lovebirds won't stop at anything until they eradicate all supernatural beings, including you and me," the Alpha said.
Derek shook his head.
"I know Erica. She won't kill me."
He was convinced.
"You knew her five years ago. She has changed now. She won't hesitate to put a gun to your chest," the Alpha said.
"Moreover," he continued, "she is dating your enemy—our enemy. He deceived you and made you kill the former Beast of Armageddon. How are you sure he wouldn't betray her?"
The Alpha paused before continuing.
"He knows that sooner or later, you will come back to their town as the new Beast of Armageddon. That's why he convinced her to join the MIA—the Military Intelligence Agency."
"This is getting interesting," he added, enjoying Derek's misery and struggle to process everything.
"I lost to him once. I won't lose to him again." Derek's mind was made up. "I won't let him get to Erica."
"Don't be silly. He has already gotten to her. You can't stop the determined MIA officer now," the Alpha replied.
"Okay, how about I prove to you that she wouldn't hesitate to kill any supernatural being?" he added.
Derek nodded. If the Alpha wanted him to believe what he was saying, he needed to prove it.
"They are currently in Canaan Town, tracking a vampire. But what they don't know yet is that behind that vampire is an innocent teenage boy who never wanted to be transformed into a vampire—a teenage boy who would give anything to live a normal life, just as you want to."
"And yet, these MIA officers: Tony and your ex-girlfriend Erica, would do anything to eliminate this boy," the Alpha said.
"I know Erica. Once she succeeds in tracking this boy, she will let him escape after he promises not to hurt any humans ever again," Derek replied.
The Alpha laughed.
"You know what? If she does exactly as you predicted, I'll let you move on with your life. But if she does the opposite..."
"I'll become the Beast of Armageddon," Derek replied, finishing the Alpha's words.
"Who are you kidding? You are already the Beast of Armageddon. If she does the opposite, I will become your master, and you will do everything I want you to do," the Alpha replied, making a bet with Derek.
