Chapter Four

1697 Words
Morning I woke up in the morning to a very cold breeze so I could tell something was off. I looked over to where Tala should have been sleeping and she wasn’t there. I looked around the tent and I saw that the clothes that she was wearing the night before were on the floor and the tent was open. The draft gave me a bit of a chill. She had snuck out in early into the morning to go on a run. I picked up her clothes and brought them to the backside of her own tent so she could change when she got back. I don’t know how long she has been out already but if I had to guess I would say she had already been out for an hour or two. I got up and I put on some new clothes. It wasn’t much just a black long sleeve blouse and leather pants which is pretty much my everyday outfit. After I got changed. I got everything together that was in my tent and got packed up to get back on the road. After everything was out of the tent, I started working on taking the tent down. It didn’t take me long to do but I realized that Tala was still not back, so I decided to start on packing up her stuff. I walked into her tent and it was messy compared to how mine was. There were a few clothing items on the floor and a couple of other things. One thing I did notice was that there was a diary laying on her bed. I was kind of surprised that she even had a diary because I never took her for the type to have one. I was curious to see what she writes in there, so even though I knew I shouldn’t have, I went to the last page to see what she had written: Dear Diary, Today was a strange day, Today we rode through Dragon’s meadow and I thought that we would have been able to pass through peacefully, and we did, however, what I did not expect was for Than to gain a dragon buddy. He apparently is connected to the dragon somehow and is telepathically linked. I don’t understand the half of it but I will figure it out over time. His dragon’s name is Nox and normally I wouldn’t be able to hear them talk but apparently if Nox trusts and wants me to, I can hear him and talk to him as well. So it seems to be that Nox is needed in our adventure, so now he is coming with us and helping Than train. He trails behind us and he cloaks himself just so he isn’t causing unwanted attention. After we had our encounter with Nox, we made camp an hour or two before dusk. I set up camp while those two went off to train and I went to get firewood. It didn’t take me long to set up so I took advantage of the time that I had alone and I phased into my wolf form. I didn’t even know where to start. I ended up scouting a few miles ahead but other than that I took in all the scenery that I could. There is just something about me being in my wolf form that makes everything so peaceful, everything just makes sense. When it started to get late I headed back to camp. I was able to locate the camp by Than’s scent and that is how I got back there safely. When I got back I transformed back and joined them. They were going on about training or the prophecy or something, I can’t really remember I came in the middle of what they were saying and I also wasn’t really paying attention. It was maybe an hour of the three of us talking when Than said that he was going to go to bed. I stayed out by the campfire thinking to myself. I refrained from talking to Nox because after Than left, he too had fallen asleep. I stared into the fire thinking about my innermost thoughts. I mainly thought about Than, how he always seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders. I really admire him. That is probably one of the reasons why I have been falling for him lately. I think I always have loved him, he makes me smile and he motivates me in ways that I never thought he could. He makes me a better person. Whenever he winks at me, it gives me butterflies. Even if I am having a rough day, Than always helps me through it, he is my rock. I feel so safe when I am with him. He can never know how I feel though because even though I want us to be together, I know that the friendship that we have is too important.  Today hasn’t been a super rough day but I do have questions and concerns revolving around the prophecy and who we can trust. After I stayed out by the fire, I went into my tent to get some sleep. I tossed and turned and could not sleep. When I finally did, I swear that I woke up not 5 minutes later with a nightmare that I had. I had lost Than and Nox in this war and I did not want to go back to sleep after that.  So I think right now I am going to go and see if Than is still up. See if I can settle myself down by talking to him. Love, Tala After I finished reading her entry, I closed the lid and sat on the bed holding her leather bound diary in my hands. I was shocked. She actually cared for me in a way that meant so much. She said she thought that she loved me, I really don’t know what to do with that information. I should have stopped after I read that entry but I wanted to see some of her other thoughts. Some entries were dark, like she thought of herself as a burden, which is never the case. I know for a fact that she does get depressed but whenever she gets that way, I try to do my best to make her happy. After I read a few entries, I put the diary down and actually started to pack up her belongings. Just as I was about to take down the tent, Tala came trotting back. She transformed behind her tent and I gave her privacy by starting to load up the carriage. I got one luggage into the carriage when she called out. “Than! You packed up my tent? You didn’t happen to see my diary on my bed, did you?” “Yeah Tala I did.” “You didn’t read any of it did you?”  “No, I didn’t although I was surprised to find out that you had a diary.” I was kind of worried that she would suspect that I was lying but thankfully she carried onto whatever she was doing.  “Yeah I just started on a diary a couple of years ago and I really enjoyed it so now I pretty much have been doing it everyday, however I will never tell you what is in my diary.” “Why not? Did you write something about me in there?” I asked jokingly even though I knew for a fact that she had.  “No…Why would you think that?” She blushed.  “I don’t know, the way that you were acting about it, but if you want to write about me, by all means write. Your diary entries will be part of history one day. Do you want to help me load things into the carriage?” I asked her partly because I wanted to get off of that topic.  “Yeah, I can help you do that.” We loaded up the carriage mostly in silence. When we finished up we walked over by the fireplace and decided to have some breakfast. I saw a farm on the way here, so I volunteered to go get them. They were about a mile down the road. I walked there because I didn’t want whoever owned the farm to notice me. It was a nice farm, there were plenty of animals but what I was looking for was the chicken coop. We needed eggs for breakfast so I quickly went into the small chicken coop and grabbed about a dozen eggs, It was a little challenging due to the fact that the hens were protecting their young. I grabbed the most I could but I needed to get out of there as fast as I could before I got plucked to death.  I made it back to camp within an hour. I told them before I left to get the fire going so when I got back the fire would be ready for us to make the eggs and thankfully they did just that. I made the eggs, we ate then we finished whatever else that needed to be done and we got into the carriage and left.  “Tala, you are going to have to show us where this waterfall is.” “Yeah, it isn’t that far away, I will let you know when we get a little closer.” We traveled maybe a mile longer before we came to a halt. “Okay. We are here.” I let her lead me to the waterfall. We traveled through the forest, through lots of twists and turns. Nox flew above the treeline to get to the waterfall. It took about ten minutes for us to get to the waterfall on foot.
