November 22, 1575
The snow covers the barren streets at quarter to midnight; the streets are illuminated by dimly lit lamp posts; horses panic as I jolt past; my heart pounding like rain hitting the ground. I turn down an alley trying to hide; she is close behind me now; I can hear her paws padder against the cobblestone path; she is just a few steps away. I turn to face her and I see her rugged face with patches of dirt and mats that cover her. She’s close to me now, her big bottle green eyes are staring me down, I am mesmerized by her beauty, and I am trapped by it. I only have one choice left to do and that is to pray to the Gods she doesn’t rip me to pieces.
1000 Years Later
“So, Than, what in the world are we going to do today?”
“Tala, I’ve told you a million times, we have to get to the deserted Starryvale and destroy the creatures that remain!”
“Do we have to do that this year?” She whined.
“No, we’ll just wait until they take over and then we will be their experiment.” I said sarcastically. “Tala, we must get there by the end of this year or we all will die.”
“Fine, when do we go?”
“Well now, if you get off of your lazy butt and tell the pack.” We are in an abandoned cabin in Edgedale where the trees were old and almost about to fall in some places. The trees were so bare, I’ve never seen that many trees that were so dead and yet beautiful in my entire life. It is Fall so the leaves were falling from the sky, whenever I look up all I could see were beautiful peaking leaf colors; a variety of garnet red, bronze orange, marigold yellow, hickory brown and even a bit of pine green, as a whole they took my breath away. I have never seen anything like it in my life.
“Ok, ok.” Tala jumped off the old and worn out counter. She always sat on old counters that are about to break and I always tell her not to, but she is like that, she is always silly. She has long brown hair and bottle green eyes. She can be really ditsy and goofy at times but she gets along with everyone but can still have fights when it comes to it. She can get annoying to someone like me but to other people it seems like she is just a fun and outgoing person. I am the kind of guy who is the athletic one but will not train unless my life is on the line and seeing as I’m a werewolf leader, I can be in danger every single day of my life. Don’t ask, Don’t tell comes hand in hand in the way I live. I will only be kind and sensitive when I truly love someone and knowing me, that could take a long time.
I stop thinking about myself and Tala. She jumped off the counter and phases into a werewolf, a nice, soft, white werewolf. It must have felt like a minute and a half but she traveled over 100 miles to a nearby abandoned village to tell the pack to start moving to Starryvale and to meet up with us when they are needed. There are about 500 werewolves in my pack and each of them are irreplaceable.
“I’m back!” Tala told me the instant she saw me.
“Ok, get packed, we have to leave by sunrise.” I told Tala
“Ok,” Tala went into her room, I am in the living room and already packed, while she on the other hand, still had to pack. She ended up packing some blouses, pants, undergarments, a few sun dresses and a ballgown, although there is no where to wear those kinds of things. She also packed some accessories. She sighs, “Than, please tell me one thing before we go into war, I want to know, are you glad that you got turned?” I thought that was kind of an odd question to be asking after so long in our friendship. We have known each other for a long time and she just asked me suddenly out of no where.
I didn’t answer right away because of course I wasn’t really planning on turning immortal at that point in time. But the truth is that I totally forgot who or what had turned me that night. It’s like everything that had happened to me that night had been erased. If given the chance back then, I would want to be immortal, but not like that. Maybe I wanted to be immortal, but not like that. Maybe I wanted to be immortal like in a couple of years but I would never want to appear 20 forever.
“Uh Tala, I don’t know the answer to that question right now, I have mixed feelings about everything. I want to ask you something seeing as we are on topic. I don’t know how to say this but…” hesitation swept through me but chose to carry out the question “…do you know who changed me? I’ve been wondering for quite some time now and I just wanted to know. I know this might seem sudden, but this is something that should be revealed before this war with the humans. Because of the memory loss at the time I turned, I really don’t know who transformed me. “
“Um, no Than, I don’t actually…” Tala had lied straight to my face. I could tell because of the hesitation when she responded and also because we have spent so much time together that I am able to see the slightest sigh of her about to lie. She on the other hand cannot tell when I am lying, but she can tell how I am feeling. It is a really great blessing that I have her in my life because she is my rock and she helps me be stable and relaxed. She is also my most trusted soldier and would be next in command if anything were to happen to me, which as it so happens would be highly impossible for that to happen due to me being immortal.
“Ok, well get ready because we will be going in five.” I said, then I walked out the door. I took a deep breath and I took it all in. The air was crisp and cool. The sunrise was just beautiful, colors of bright pink , orange, yellow, purple and a tiny bit of blue. I walked out into the clearing and the sight was something unimaginable. I sat down in the grass as I watched the sun fully rise thinking about the journey ahead. day we are star. ting our journey. A whole new adventure awaits. I hope it goes my way.
As I was walking back to the cabin , I heard a branch break. I looked all around me but I didnt see anything. It must have been a roaming animal in the forest. As I made it back to the cabin, I wasn’t surprised at all to find out that Tala wasn’t ready.
“Tala! Let’s go!” I yelled while putting my belongings on the back of the carriage that my black mustang named Eclipse and Tala’s silver mustang named Smokey was leading.
“Ok, ok, I’m coming!” Tala said as she slammed the front door of the cabin. She put her belongings in the back and jumped in the carriage and then we were off.
