*Chapter 10: Misstep*

222 Words
Elijah's words echoed in my mind: "You're still healing." He was right. Some days, the memories of Julian overwhelmed me. I'd see his smile in crowds, only to realize it was someone else. Elijah sensed my unease. "Ava, can I take you out tonight?" he asked. "Dinner and a walk?" he suggested. I hesitated. "I don't know," I replied. Elijah's expression softened. "We don't have to do anything," he said. "Just be together." I nodded. "Okay." We went to a quiet Italian restaurant. Elijah's stories about his music and family made me laugh. For a moment, I forgot. But as we walked along the river, Elijah's hand brushed mine. I flinched. "Sorry," he said, pulling back. We walked in silence, the city lights reflecting off the water. Elijah stopped and turned to me. "Ava, I care about you," he said, his eyes searching. Then, he kissed me. Suddenly, Julian's face flashed before me. I slapped Elijah, my hand stinging. "Don't," I whispered, my voice trembling. Elijah's eyes widened. "Ava, I'm sorry—" I turned and walked away, leaving him standing alone. I couldn't breathe. Tears filled my eyes I couldn't think. All I could see was Julian. -------------- _Author's Note:_ Thank you for joining Ava on her journey. Please remember that healing from grief and trauma takes time, patience, and support🥰.
