Chapter Eleven‘Heads!’ The ball comes flying towards me from the other side of the pitch. I judge its speed and angle perfectly and head it to Joe. ‘Go on, Joe!’ Callum shouts from beside me as Joe dribbles it up the other end of the pitch. ‘Watch out!’ I call as two defenders corner him. Joe neatly nutmegs one of them, shoots… and scores! We all jump up and down wildly as Marco, the goalie, rips his gloves off in anger. ‘Yes! Well done mate!’ Callum claps Joe on the back as he runs over to us. ‘Thanks,’ Joe grins, giving me a high five. As a team, we jog over to the sidelines for water and snacks, never standing still as we slurp and crunch. It’s way too cold to be stationary. Other than that and the light frost on the grass, though, the conditions are pretty much perfect for a game.
