Chapter Forty-Two

Chapter Forty-TwoI don’t know how I managed a full day at school, I really don’t. The only thing that actually got me out of bed this morning was the thought of my other option: spending the day in the house with Mum. Which is the last thing I need right now. ‘You’re being so quiet,’ Daisy says, pressing a chewing gum into my palm. I put it in my mouth and don’t reply. Like I said, sometimes talking about things helps, sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t even know where I’d start in explaining what happened last night to Daisy. Or anyone. ‘Do you want to come round at the weekend?’ Daisy asks. ‘We’re gonna get a Chinese.’ ‘I’m busy. Thanks, though.’ There’s no way I’m going back to Daisy’s house yet. ‘What’re you doing?’ Probably sitting in my room crying and having nightmares about death.
