"Merritt, I believe you. You didn't send her here," I said.
He may or may not be telling the truth. No need to start a fight if he insisted that he was innocent. There was no evidence to the contrary, so we would watch and see how it all played out.
"So we're okay, right?"
"Yeah, we're okay," I replied.
I expected him to return to his pack, but he didn't leave immediately. He seemed unconvinced. It felt like he needed reassurance that we were still friends.
"You don't look alright," I said gently.
"I feel better knowing you believe me," he replied.
