Chapter 9: MADDOX

I paced around the room. My chest rose and fell, hot air snorted out of my nose as anger overtook me. Elara? Dating Draven ? I ran my fingers through my hair, rage flickering on the surface. Just when I thought I had gotten what I needed…. Just when I thought I had humiliated Elara enough, she comes back stronger and better than she could ever be if we were still together. “You need to stop overthinking it…. Maddox. It doesn't matter if she is with Draven or do you still have feelings for her?. Kyla inquired, her shoulders squared, her eyes glittering with jealousy and something else. I walked over and sat on the bed, his legs crossed. He rested his hand on his chin, visibly lost in thoughts. “Have feelings for her? Can you listen to yourself, Kyla? Why would I have feelings for her? I don't love her. It is just so unbelievable. I can't comprehend it.” “What's there to comprehend, Maddox? Can't you see? The rumours were true. Elara has done what she is capable of doing. She has moved on. She is now Draven’s girlfriend. Get her out of your mind and let's make this night memorable. You can't keep on worrying about her. We are supposed to be together in each other's arms.”Kyla stretched her hands and you touched my cheeks. I pulled her hands away and rose to my feet, pacing, my hands stuffed into my pockets. “Don't you understand me or are you blinded by your desires tonight? I just lost the sponsorship I needed for our hockey team all because Draven needs Elara's approval to do so. This has been my dream. To get Draven's support and take a huge step in my career but now, everything has just shattered to unrecognizable pieces. I don't know where to start.” Kyla sighed and reached out to me. He wrapped her arms around me from behind, her head placed gently against my back, her voice soft. “Maddox, you have to calm down. I know you are pained but all this …. It’s not worth it. She’s not…” “No!” I yelled, cutting her off. I shook my head vehemently, my voice echoing through the room, raw and sharp. “Don’t tell me to calm down, Kyla! You don't know anything about the pain I am going through right now. I am back to square one. How am I supposed to be calm when that witch is out there smiling, happy, living her best life like I don't exist? She thinks that because she is dating Draven, she can do whatever she likes and go free?” My chest heaved, and anger burned hotter inside me. Kyla hugged me tighter. “Maddox…?.” she whispered, her voice calm and soft. “She ruined everything for me. She suddenly comes into Draven’s life and now the support I need is far from my reach. She thinks she gets to walk around like some saint while I stay here running mad while trying to pick up the pieces? No, I can’t be calm. Not when Elara thinks she is living her best life. I have ruined her before and I'll ruin her again.” “I make this school a nightmare that she'll have no option but to transfer to another school. She might think she is winning but I'll show her that I ruined her before and this time I'll make her wish for death.” I seethed through gritted teeth. “Listen, baby. I know you are hurt. I am angry as well. I hate Elara for what she did. The pain you are going through right now, pierces my heart. But today is our day. Being angry or trying to fathom why all this happened won't change anything. If you need answers, meet Draven at the hockey field tomorrow. Talk to him. He is a man like you are. Just rest your head Maddox and let me keep you company.” I sighed deeply, the fire in my chest cooling a little. I turned around to face Kyla, my arms finding its way around her petite waist. “You know what, Kyla? You’re absolutely right,” I replied quietly, a sinister smile playing out on my lips. “Your advice makes sense. It's legit advice, Bae. How come I never thought of this?.” “That's why you have me, Dox.” “You are right. I'll do as you suggested. I’ll talk to Draven tomorrow and settle this matter once and for all. Darven is not a d**k. He can't just change his mind because Elara decided to be a stumbling block” I uttered and brushed my fingers against Kyla's cheek, a small smile tugging at my lips. “That’s why I chose you over Elara. I knew she was just too dumb and stupid to be my girlfriend. You’re beautiful with brains, Kyla. A full package with a branded name. You always know how to calm me down. You know the right button. The right words. The right ideas.” Her face lit up with a soft blush, eyes shining with warmth. She leaned closer, and when their lips met, everything else faded away. I nibbled on her lips as passionately as I carved. Everything happening was so traumatizing and a kiss was all the magic I needed to take the pressure away. To make it vanish. We pulled apart slowly and for a few seconds we both tried to catch our breath. I rested my forehead against hers, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. “I successfully ruined my own party because of Elara. Looking back now, I behaved like a real dickhead,” I muttered, my tone low and filled with regret. Kyla smiled softly, her fingers tracing the side of my face. “It’s not a problem, baby. That's in the past now. You can always host another party whenever you want. You are famous in this school. You’re Maddox… Of course people will still show up.” I smiled, leaning in to kiss her again, this time ravenously.
