SIENNA
My name is Sienna Cross, and I killed my husband.
That wouldn’t be too bad of an opener for the eventual documentary they’d make of me. The scenario filtering through my mind was both a mockery of my mind and myself. But how else could I even cope?
“Aah~Damon. S—So good.”
I stood outside the door to our shared room, my hands trembling hard. Each breath I took only left my chest more tightened.
“You like that?”
I sucked in another painful breath, anger tearing at my skin from inside out. I let the anger lead me, pushing the door open without giving it a second thought.
There was a brief moment of shock from the woman as she jumped further into my hus—Damon’s hands. His eyes were cold, indifferent, and dare I say, irritated as he watched me.
“You,” I pointed out a shaky finger to him.
“Me.” He replied, the mockery in his tone another stab to my already broken heart.
My nose scrunched in distaste, the scent of the woman’s pheromones filling the air. It smelled painfully like heat. As if I needed any more proof that they’d been going at it.
“Oh, heaven.” The woman rolled her eyes, an irritated look nestled behind them.
Lila Reigns. She was the sister of the pack’s beta and a long-time childhood friend of his. The signs had all been there. But I let myself be blinded by love and the possibility that hope held.
And now, I was paying the heavy price for it.
My hands balled into fist, the burning anger fighting its way out of my throat. “Seven years, Damon. That’s how long I have given my—my everything into this marriage. And this is how you choose to pay me back? Huh, Damon? Why aren’t you f*****g saying anything? Dammit.”
Long seconds of silence trickled by with him just staring back. My heart felt like it’d been set on fire. Why wasn’t he saying anything? Why didn’t he even—
“Are you done?”
I blinked. “What?”
“I thought you said she’d be out for the rest of the day,” The woman whined, sending me a dirty look.
Damon sighed. “I know, baby. I know. We’ll get back to it once I’m done handling this okay?”
“Okay,” She pouted some more, snuggling into his arms.
My hands trembled with rage, tears falling down my cheeks. “You—You asshole!”
I didn’t give a damn about Lila. No. She wasn’t the one that just threw seven years of devotion into the garbage like it meant nothing.
Come to think of it, hadn’t Damon always been this way? I’d never forget the cold and detached look in his eyes when a marriage agreement had been made between our families. It was to strengthen the alliance between both families and for the betterment of the pack. He’d be Alpha and I, his Luna.
I could change him.
What an incredibly stupid thing to think. He’d always been emotionless in my regard. Didn’t care much and only focused on his Alpha duties. Our son, Akira’s birth had been the glimmer of hope I needed.
Damon was…kinder. More involved as we brough up Akira. I should have said something about the closeness with Lila, the way his hand always lingered when he’d touched her.
How could I have been so stupid?
“Enough with this,” Damon’s voice broke through my thoughts.
His icy stare was enough to make my stomach churn. “Stop being dramatic. There’s no reason for all these theatrics so you can just stop.”
“Dramatic?” I let out a bitter laugh. “I’m being dramatic? Oh, forgive me Alpha, for being so dramatic about catching my husband in bed with—with—”
“Oh, can you shut the f**k up already?” Lila sneered, eyes gleaming with irritation and distaste. “Let’s face it. You were never truly Damon’s mate.”
My eyes narrowed on her. “You—”
“Did you really think he was happy with that arranged marriage?”
I froze. “What do you—”
“He never wanted you, Sienna.” She said my name like it was some slur. “You’ve been nothing but a stand-in; a trophy wife if you will. All this, until he could have the woman he really wanted.”
She ran a hand over his naked abs, before claiming his lips with hers. When she finally turned to me, I felt my breath hitch.
“Me.”
I turned to Damon, desperate for some sort of answer or explanation. His silence felt like a harsh slap to the face.
Lila rolled her eyes again, looking even more irritated. “And would you please take your crying elsewhere. It’s a huge turn-off.”
Damon sighed, turning to her. “I’m sorry you have to see all this baby.”
“Oh, it’s okay my love.” She placed another kiss on his lips.
My ears were ringing, everything around me slowly starting to blur. With how suffocated and tight the room felt, I was very sure I’d pass out in a matter of seconds. If only I’d—
“Mommy?”
I froze, turning to find my son standing by the door way. “Akira.”
The words left my mouth breathlessly, hands instantly opening for him to come to me. Damon could betray me and treat me like s**t. But one thing I refused to let him have was my son.
“Akira.” I called again, arms wide as tears poured uncontrollably down my cheeks.
“Mommy.”
My heart stopped when he ran past me and onto the bed. I turned just in time to see him jump into Lila’s arms.
“Mommy,” He giggled, snuggling into her arms.
She smiled some more, nuzzling his nose. “How are you, my little honey bee?”
I didn’t think it was possible but I could hear the last bits of my heart slowly shatter into pieces. A pained gasp left my lips, hand moving to clutch my chest.
He called her mommy. He’d ran past me without a single glance in my direction. And Damon, he was staring at them with so much warmth in his eyes.
Seven years.
Seven years of devotion, sacrifices and sleepless nights. All for nothing. I’d been so stupid to think love was enough to guarantee loyalty.
Blood was in fact, not thicker than water.
Slowly, I got off the floor and dusted my pants. I’d spent all these years raising someone else’s pup. Not mine.
“I’m done.”
Without another word, I left the room, a serene and dangerous calm cloaking me while I made my way downstairs.
Did I have on shoes? No. But none of that mattered. I was too broken to give a s**t about any other thing. Damon had made his choice right there and then. And I’d made mine.
“You’ll regret this, Damon.” I swore underneath my breath. “I swear you will.”
