The coldness of his words hurt so desperately she[TG1]  felt the wind slammed from her ribs and for a half-moment she couldn’t breathe. “I hate you,” she spat furiously at him. She turned and fumbled for the door.  She thought he was trying to stop her from leaving when his hand reached out past her head and stopped her hand from turning the deadbolt, but her heart shattered as he shoved her hand out of the way and he turned the tiny device himself. He hauled the door open and shoved her through it. The sound of it slamming behind her shook her just as violently as the walls. The sound reverberating in her chest.
