The sound of screeching branches against your window wakes you up in a cold sweat, "what the hell was that", you thought as you jumped out of bed, scrambling to the window, you know it's probably the wind, but you can't shake the feeling that you were being watched.
Dad TOLD you to leave the country life to the people who are "cut out for it", as he always said.
"Poor dad, thinking a person is set in stone" you thought to yourself while giggling, you find the thought amusing, its been a while since you , actually, smiled.
It's been about 4 months since you graduated from Tulsa university, and from the moment you left and came here, you haven't ONCE had a good night's sleep.
The nightmares follow your very being, and just as you were staring out of your window, trying to piece together the meaning that you KNOW is hidden within, you see it, the figure, standing boldly on the forest line, staring straight at you, the eye contact shook you to your soul, crazy thing is, it's not fear...
You faint.
Ashley! .......Ashley!
Whispers in the distance, she's calling me, but I'm not ashley, there must be some mistake here, obviously whatever or whoever is haunting you, suffers from some sort of delirium.
But one thing is certain, emerging as a bold strong woman from an entire family of cowards, truly is the mystery of a century.
You wake up in bed, strange, you thought to yourself, it must've all been part of that crappy nightmare again. You scuffle to the bathroom hastily, gotta get to that mirror, gotta not look like a character out of a zombie movie.
You stare at the mirror, shocked, you know you're not always that observant, but you could've sworn you had blue eyes, daddy used to describe them as "ocean water", he tried, but was not very good at complimenting anything. "They're GREEN, what the F*********".
You are so astonished at the major change of eye colour, that you neglect to notice that your long, thick, wavy blonde hair, is pitch black, and that is a very big thing to miss.
You begin laughing uncontrollably, tears roll down your cheek. You noticed your hair, and this is your new way of freaking out apparently, you go to the kitchen, throw yourself down on one of your country chairs, you know the type, it gives you splinters.
You feel ecstatic, you've never felt like this before, but something about the feeling is so familiar.
You pour yourself a cup of coffee, black and bitter, just the way you like it.
You're trying to get into a professional mood, gotta get my science on, you think humorously to yourself, letting a quiet laugh escape.
this is all so confusing, where did all my fear and seriousness go??? you shriek.
You have a way to test if your fear truly left you, before today, thinking about the nightmares would make your heart pound rapidly, your palms would get sweaty and your chest felt heavy.
I'll think of the nightmare!!! You exclaim happily. You remember the figure, and what's this, arousal. You can't help but laugh, freaking out again I see, Ashley, a brisk seductive voice stutters from your doorway.
You damn near leap out of your window, you live alone, and have no friends to speak of, so who the hell just spoke.
You storm the door, wow, my fear really is gone, you think whilst rushing over. You reach the door, and find yourself standing face to face with what is probably the most beautiful woman you've ever seen in your life, you freeze and can't help but stare at her darting golden brown eyes, hair a shade of brown you can only describe as the entire season of autumn, your favourite season, luscious lips, her strong jaw line literally takes your breath away.
She smirks, as if she can hear or sense every little emotion you're feeling, I'm here to take you to that interview you're so looking forward to.
You go numb, you didn't tell a soul, you are the most secretive person ever, the only other people who know, is Miss Langley and her secretary.
Your eyes go dark as you feel some sort of rage radiating from your core, rage at the audacity of whothefuckever this is, gorgeous or not, this is your house, you literally moved to Nowhere, you have no neighbors, no friends, you live a secluded life, what would possibly let this woman know that you are a welcoming person??!!
I'll just wait in the car, while you take a moment to catch your breath, she says sheepishly, smiling, as if she's teasing you, testing you.
No use in trying to argue with a woman that was bold enough to even talk to me, you mumble, it's not like anyone is brave enough to even walk up to you, you are notoriously cold and distant.
You huddle over to your dresser, what to wear, you sighed.
well, it's an interview, so i can only assume that you should wear something corporate, the woman states, you again nearly have a stroke, this woman pops up like a shitty thrift shop in a poor neighborhood, you think to youself.
You stare at her and you suddenly realize that you're barely wearing any clothes, blood rushes to your face as embarrassment sets in, unlike fear, you completely feel this.
She laughs, and you can't help but wonder how it's possible to have a laugh sound so mesmerizing, enchanting even.
Since you have absolutely no care for privacy, or a locked door for that matter, what is your name? my name is Mia.
She looks at you, and for the first time ever, you see an emotion other than neutral, she is visibly confused.
She immediately refocused herself, looking at you in awe.
My name is Sydney, it's nice to meet you, Mia, she holds her hand out, you think you're supposed to shake it, not entirely sure, you shake her hand like a dorky princess, two fingers across, she looks at your hand, then at you, and giggles, blood rushes to your face again, and you look down.
You realize that you still haven't dressed, and the meeting is in 30 minutes, s**t s**t s**t!!! you exclaim as you rummage through your neatly stacked clothes. You pick out your favourite black dress, you don't remember your mom, but you remember she said that every lady should have a little black dress, you smile as you slip it on.
Sydney looks at you with eyes shining bright, and you laugh, like what you see? you ask jokingly.
very much so, she huffs.
You follow her to the car, always behind her, because for some reason, you never let anyone walk behind you. You get in the car and Sydney pulls away, the drive was quite awkward, it was quiet with a lot of Sydney staring at you, thinking you didn't notice.
The car comes to a stop and you look out of the window, you're in a quiet dark underground parking lot. Sydney opens the door for you, and you're puzzled by the fact that you didn't even notice her walking around. You step out of the car, Sydney shows you to a private elevator, she punches in a code, and a fingerprint scanner appears, she presses her pinky on it, and you laugh, your pinky, that is adorable, Sydney blushes and laughs with you, that is just the sweetest thing.
You hear the loud ping of the elevator's arrival, and the doors slide open, you follow Sydney inside, the doors close.
Are you nervous, Mia? Sydney asked in a really considerate tone.
I am, actually, I studied so long, and I really love microbiology and the thought of creating medication for everything, I know it's going to sound cliche, but my life goal is finding the formula to eternal youth, you ramble excitedly. Sydney looks at you with eyes brighter than you've seen this entire time, she's smiling, and it's a soft smile, it makes you feel warm inside.
You hear the ping again, and the doors slide open, Sydney steps out, holds out her arm and in a bend says, welcome to my office, Mia, ready for that interview?
You did not see that coming, the gorgeous stalker is THE Sydney Langley, you have GOT to be kidding, she saw me half naked, I practically called her a stalker, but technically she is, you think to yourself.
Sydney gestures you to sit down, you take your seat, and you are so struck by her confidence, she sits on the edge of her desk, and smiles.
so Mia, you passed the hard part, now for the easy part, I admire your eternal youth goal, I , too, used to share that passion, but how do you feel about finding a cure for cancer, or such? she asks in a strange cold way.
Your heart starts racing, palms sweaty, s**t, you don't actually give a crap about people, you think it's part of life, and if you do find a cure, you intend to patent it and it must be earned, almost like Anubis weighed the good and bad, in ancient egypt, you too will weigh the good and bad, because not everybody deserves to survive, this is rushing through your mind, as you struggle to find any kind of word to save this interview.
I do agree with you, Mia, Sydney says in the midst of your mental crash.
Agree with what, Ms Langley? you ask soflty.
She smirks and licks her lips, I agree with your idea to weigh good and evil, patent an evaluate, because yes, not everyone deserves to survive, she says calmly.
Your mind just crashed, what, you look at her, pretty sure you're pale as a sheet, you cannot manage to get a single word out.
Cat got your tongue, Mia? Sydney asks sheepishly as she moves closer, she kneels before you, bringing you back to reality, this beautiful beast of a woman, has somehow managed to ensare your senses, she's on her knees, and why is this where your mind went.
So you like me on my knees, careful now, you shouldn't make wishes that would intimidate you, were they to come true, she says with a seductive smile.
You jump up, making the situation worse is that Sydney didn't move, so she's knelt with her face right on your hipline, and as you look down, you find her staring up at you, looking like she might eat you alive. Sydney stands up, you notice how close she is, the warmth from her body makes every hair on your body stand on edge, and she laughs at you.
You find my tension amusing? You ask boldly.
She smirks and says, why, yes, yes I do, amusing and so alluring.
Your body stiffens, why would you think about her throwing you over her desk, when it should be bothering you more that she somehow managed to know what you were thinking, how did she do that, is she really that good at reading people, is she a witch, yes, she must be a witch, that's it, you think to yourself to calm down.
I'm not a witch Mia, Sydney said laughingly
first thing's first, I would like to congratulate you, you have been hired, I look for ambition here at LanCo, I don't wish to deal with good intentions or emotional turmoil.
You are shocked, she hired you, after you not only called her a stalker, but a witch as well. But there is definitely something magical about her, you just can't place it.
Thank you Ms Langley, I won't bring emotions to work, I luckily barely have any to speak of, but you know that already, don't you? you ask with a smerk.
Sydney smiles as she moves closer, I think we will get along just fine Mia, I'll get to know you inside out, she says and winks at you seductively.
You melt, knees weak, she has got to be a witch, what am I feeling, lust, I don't feel lust, I never do.
You start on monday, weekends are for f**king and partying, see you soon Sweety, she states playfully.
You are shocked at her response, you did not picture the Sydney Langley as someone who would not only party, but literally say it like that, you realize that ms Sydney here might be a bad ass, and that, somehow, is almost as attractive as her bold bossy side.
See you monday boss lady, you say with a smirk and wink as you step in the elevator.
