Chapter Eleven: Integration

In the morning after we all had our usual breakfast, My mother went to the door and I quickly followed her. I gave her a hug, and then went out the door. Not soon after we heard a knock at the door. Since I was near the door, I opened it up. There were two people about my age at the door, one in red and the other in blue.

“ Come in and thanks for coming.” Both came in and sat at the table. Edana-Ava got out two tea cups and poured some tea in. they both thanked her. The male in red spoke up saying,

“We only trust you since you and your mother are friends with an ignitor. Also you are a friend to a water bringer.” The female in blue nodded her head in agreement. I went to grab a caldron and filled it with water. When I brought it to the sitting room, I asked the women in blue,

“Can you scryer?”

“Yes, I can. Who or what do you want me to find?”

“A person who can help us in the non-magikan village.” She closed her eyes for a moment and then said,

“ Water pure and light, show us the person who is true and bright.” The water rippled and then an image of a male entering a cottage with tan shutters. After about a minute, the image faded. I thanked her and went for the door. Everybody that is coming followed suite.

We quietly walked to the edge of our village. From behind a grove trees, we put on our invisibility cloaks. On the way to the non-magikan’s cottage, my mind starts to reel.

What if I heard him wrong? What if he will hurt us? I will then be leading everyone into danger. Then, it went to the thought of father. What will he think of me for going back to the non-magikan’s village? Especially since I am not going there to save a person. All of these negative thoughts will get me nowhere.

At the cottage, I took a deep breath, took off my invisibility cloak, and put it in my pocket. I knocked on the door and a bearded man opened it.

“You are not around here are you?”, he remarked.

“ That is an astute observation. I am from a nearby village. Can I come in?” In reply he opened the door wider and they went in. I quickly followed suit. He led us to the kitchen where we sat down.

“ What can I do for you?” Before I could answer, everyone else took their invisibility cloaks off, and put them in their pockets.

“ How did the others get in here? Furthermore, who are you people?”, he inquired.

“I can explain. We have invisibility cloaks so that you can not see us. As to who we are, we are called magikans.”

“Were all of you responsible for the missing prisoner who escaped out of thin air?”, he inquired.

The igniter spoke up ,“Not all of us were there.” Ken-Farris and I exchanged a nerves look at each other. We have definitely fallen into a trap for sure. I have let everyone down. Just then the bearded man let out a chuckle. We all then relaxed for a bit, for he is not turning us in. At least, not yet.

“The looks on your faces were priceless. I was just curious, that is all. Now, for the matter at hand. What can I do for all of you?”

“We are wondering if you can convince your villagers to let our villagers to pass on by the boarder, so that we can go to our market unharmed? Also, to let anyone who wants to work here be welcomed. In exchange we can help maintain any of the crops if you let us combine our farm land with yours.”, I respond.

“ I will see what I can do. Stay here while I go and talk with my leader.” I did not want to leave fate in his hands, so I said.

“I will come with you.”

“ If you insist. We will leave after a quick lunch.” We all nodded our agreement. He brought out the cups and bowls and put them on the table. Then, he got out the silverware, and put it next to the bowls. After that, he went to the icebox, grabbed a container of salad, and sat down at the table. While he opened up the container, I took the cups, and filled them with water. Once I sat back down, he passed the container around. We quickly ate our salads and when we are done, we thanked him for lunch. While the water bringer help clear the dishes, Ken-Farris whispered,

“I can follow you to their leader, if you like.”

“Thanks, you do not have to worry. I will be fine. We need to truly maintain trust with him if this is going to work.” He nodded as I got up from the table. The bearded man told the others that we will be back soon. Then, we went out the door.

We walked in silence for a little while. After what felt like a few minutes of quiet on the way to the leader’s cottage, I inquire,

“Since we are going to need to trust one another, what is your name?”

“My name is William. What is yours.” I guess I can not give my other name my mother gave me due to the fact that we will be working together, I said,

“My name is Elena-Irene. It Is nice to meet you.”

“Likewise, well here we are. This is Derik's cottage.” William quickly knocked on the door and after awhile, the door opened. When the man named Derik saw William, he let is in. He led us to the kitchen and was all sat down.

“What can I do for you William?”

“Actually she would like to ask you something.”

“I see. Go on ahead.”

“I was wondering if you can convince your villagers to let our villagers to pass on by the boarder, so that we can go to our market unharmed? Also, to let anyone who wants to work here be welcomed. “All other citizens of different villages are welcome to pass along the border. So it is not an issue.”

“This village that I come from have not been welcome for we are the ones you kill if caught near the border.”

“Is she saying what I think she is saying?” William gave Derik a firm nod of confirmation.

“This does seem like a beneficial deal. I accept the proposition, but I can not expect that all of the villagers will agree.”

“Thank you and speaking on the behalf of my village, they thank you as well. I will be on my way to tell them the news.” He shook my hand and said,

“I am looking forward on this new partnership. Safe travels back.”

“I as well. Thank you.” William said his good bye to Derik and we went out the door.

We walked in silence all the way back to his cottage. I can not wait to tell everyone the great news. I hope my father will be proud of me on accomplishing peace between the two races. We finally reached the cottage and walked in.

Everyone who stayed behind is looking at us with anticipation. I finally told them about the merger for the fields and that whoever wants to work here can. That the leader is looking forward on this venture, but makes no promises on being a smooth transition. Ken-Farris spoke first saying,

“I am sure it will work for the best. Well done, though.”

“Thanks, I could not have been able to be here if any of you came.” I turned to William next.

“Thank you for your hospitality and for listening to us. I am sure some of us will see you soon.”

“It was a pleasure to meet you all. Indeed see you soon.” We all said our goodbyes and walked out of the cottage. Quietly, we all made it to the tree line.

“I will think about coming back to that village in the future.”, the igniter said.

“I can see if some of the water bringers would like to go as well.”, offered the water bringer. I thanked them both for more of their support for the cause. When we arrived at the elder’s cottage, both the igniter and the water bringer went their separate ways. I knocked on the door and he opened it.

“Elena-Irene, welcome back. I can assume that all went well then.”

“Thanks Elder Eldrige-Alastair. It went as I hoped it would.”

“Excellent then. The job is all yours.”

“Thank you. I will not let you down.” With that, we went on our way back home. I hope mother will still let me do this, for I hate to turn the elder down.

Dinner is already on the table when we get inside. Which is rabbit stew, salad, berries and bread. We all sat down to eat.

“The expansion is complete and he will start on the construction of the cottage tomorrow. How did it go?”, Edana-Ava inquired.

“That is good to hear. Thanks for allowing the expansion to happen. It went well actually. I am officially a liaison.”

“I am glad to expand this cottage to make more room for all of us. Congratulations on your new job.”

“Thank you. Mother, will you still allow for me to continue with this venture?”

“Yes, as long as you have a partner by your side. I do not want you to be taken advantage of.”

“I understand.” I then turned to Ken-Farris and asked,

“Do you want to be my business partner?”

“I thought you would never ask. Of course I will be your partner.” After dinner, Ken-Farris and I did the dishes. Once everything is cleaned and put away, we all went to the setting room.

I got out a cat toy since I have not spent time with Midnight. Everyone else either read or working on sewing. I am glad mother is still letting me to continue on my new job for I would hate to go behind her back. After an hour past, we said our good night’s and got ready for bed.

I picked Midnight up and carried her to the room I share with mother. Eventually I will have my own room, for Kenn-Farris needs it more than I do. I am sure he is appreciative for the fact he does not have to worry about moving aside his cot in the sitting room in the morning. Curling up with Midnight, I drifted off to sleep knowing that the feature will be great or so I hope.
