Chapter Nine: Plans for the future

In the morning, we spread out between the kitchen and the living area. Edana-Ava and my mother made tea and berry spread for our bread. After breakfast, I did the dishes. We all got dressed and got ready for the day. While the grownups stayed behind with Midnight, the others went out the door.

We went to the cottage of the green thumb that came with us to the non-magikan's village. He knocked on the door and his mother answered it.

We all went in for she insisted. She hugged her son and nephew and then thanked us. I told her that was the least we could do. We all turned down any food, but we did not want to offend her so we stayed for tea. Once the tea was all out, we said our goodbyes, and left.

The three of us headed in the direction of Iima-Marie’s cottage. We chatted about our lives since we did not get to at all before. When we reached her cottage, Ken-Farris and I thanked her for the help. We said our goodbyes and the two of us went back to Edana-Ava's cottage.

. It is a little less crowded now that the majority of the people are gone. I got out some of Midnight's toys to play with her. We played until Edana-Ava told us that it is lunch time. I quickly put away the toys and went into the kitchen.

We all sat at the table for stewed rabbit, berries and bread. While we are eating, Edana-Ava asked,

“What are your plans for the future?”

“If it is fine with you, can Midnight, my mother stay here, and I can stay with you? I am sure we can make it bigger by expanding the guest room.”

“It should be doable. I will get someone to start on it soon."

“Thank you.”

“Your welcome.”

“I will see if my father wants to move here. There has to be an area where we can build a cottage for us.”

“I am sure there is a place you can build a cottage if that is what you want.” Edana-Ava replied. After lunch, we cleaned up and my mother headed out the door to get started on getting some of our things from our cottage. I persuaded Ken-Ferris and Edana-Ava to come with me to go the elder's cottage so I can request another meeting.

I taped on the door and he opened it. I told him if I can set up another meeting if possible for today. He nodded and we went to center of town, while he started to gather everyone.

Along the way to the center of town, Edana-Ava stops at a green thumb's cottage. She tapped on the door. He opens it up and asks,

“What can I do for you?”

Edana-Ava replied with,

“I would like it if you can expand my guest room and build a two bedroom cottage in an open area for my friend. I would highly appreciate it.”

“I can get it started tomorrow. It might take time to make the cottage. The expansion should take a day at least.”

“Thank you kindly. I will pay you soon.” With that, he closed the door and we continued to be on our way to the center of town.

When we got to the center of the village, pretty much everyone is here. I went up to the stage where the elder is standing in the middle. The elder raised his hand for quite a while and said,

“Thank you for all coming on short notice again. First I want to thank everyone who helped to rescue the young man from the non-magikans.” The crowd politely clapped and cheered. He raised his hand again and continue,

“Secondly, Elena-Irene wants to speak with you all.”

“Thank you Elder Eldrige-Alastair for gathering everyone. I asked for this meeting for I come to a realization that not all non-magikans want to hurt us. I found out about it during the rescue. All of us does not ha-.”

“Are you suggesting that we should trust the words you overheard?” someone interpreted.

“No, of course not, but if you let me finish what I am saying. Not all of as has to come to the non-magi-.”

“You can not be serious about this. Especially if I remember clearly that you told us that your father was killed by the non-magikans.”

“No more interruptions, please.” Elder Eldrige-Alastair implored. I nodded my thanks and took a deep breath, let it out, and continued by saying,

“ Yes that is true, but as I was saying, not all of us had to come to the non-magikan's village, but we should not let fear dictate our lives. If some of you want to come with me to show we mean no harm then come to Edana-Ava's in the morning. We will then go to the non-magikan's village. Thank you for your time.”

“Thank you Elena-Irene for your information.”

The woman who interrupted me left in a hurry, which I do not mind. The others talked amongst themselves to see what they might do, for I am grateful that some people are at least considering my plan. The elder pulled me aside and said,

“If you can make peace with the non-magikans, can you be the liaison for the village?”

“I will be honored to be your liaison. Thank you for gathering everyone again for me.”

“ It is no problem. A fresh perspective is always welcome. It is about time we show them that we are not to be feared. There has been too many deaths and a close call in my lifetime. Tread carefully daughter of the light.”

With that the elder walked away to talk to someone else. If I manage to do this, I am sure that my father will be pleased with me, but he would definitely be worried that I will be facing people who fear us. I made it back to where Edana-Ava and Ken-Farris was sitting. We then headed back to the cottage. I hope someone else will come with me and Ken-Farris tomorrow to the non-magikan’s village. It will show that we are not to be feared and that we should not be intimidated any more.

My mother came out of our room when we got through the door. She told me she has to get a few more things tomorrow from our cottage. I gave her a hug for she is truly doing this for me. We separated and I went to play with Midnight, while she stayed in the kitchen to help with dinner. Ken-Farris also stayed to help to chop any wood.

After awhile, I went back to the kitchen to help set the table. When the table was good to go, I filled Midnight's bowl with fish and Ken-Farris filled the cups with water. I placed the bowl down onto the floor and sat down next to Ken-Farris. Edana-Ava and my mother brought over dinner. Once everyone filled their plates with fish, berries, and bread, I told them the news about potentially becoming a liaison if they can make peace with us. Everyone was shocked and mother broke the silence by saying,

“Are you sure you want to get involved with these dangerous people? I do not want to lose you too.”

“Yes, I want to try to reason with them. You will not lose me for someone will probably join me tomorrow. I will be careful.”

“You are stubborn like your father. There was no reasoning with him either, but I will try to level with you. You can go if and only if you have someone with you.”

“Thanks mother.” With that settled, Edana-Ava got up and get the berry bread. She cut it and gave each of us a slice. Once she sat back down, we ate our dessert in silence. I can tell that mother is still holding onto hope that I will not do anything reckless .My luck could run out, but I have to see this through. I cannot look like a coward now for I have done other feats. She better change her mind for I hate to go behind her back if no one comes with me. After we finished our dessert, we got up, and cleared the table. Edana-Ava did the dishes, while I dried them, and Ken-Farris put them away. We all then sat around the fire in the sitting room. Most of us became tiered for they started to yawn. Each of us bid other good night and went to get ready for bed. After, I scoped Midnight up, I curled up on the cot from our cottage, and went to sleep.
