Chapter 10 — The Beginning of the End
Alexander stared at the ring.
“Where did you find that?”
“On the floor.”
He took it from her.
“This belongs to Damian.”
Seraphina's heart raced.
“Then he was here.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Alexander didn't answer.
He immediately called security.
But before anyone arrived, Seraphina noticed another piece of paper beneath the desk.
She picked it up.
It contained a list of names.
Damian Blake.
Vivienne Carter.
Several business persons.
And at the bottom—
Grace Rose.
Seraphina froze.
Her mother's name.
“No.”
Alexander took the paper.
“Seraphina…”
“My mother couldn't be involved.”
“I didn't say she was.”
“But her name is here.”
Alexander studied the document.
“We need to find out why.”
Seraphina shook her head.
“My family has already lost enough.”
Alexander reached for her hand.
“We'll find the truth.”
She looked at him.
“You promise?”
“I promise.”
For the first time, she didn't feel like she was facing everything alone.
She leaned against him.
Alexander gently held her.
Neither spoke.
Then his phone rang.
He answered.
It was his security chief.
“Sir, we found someone outside the property.”
“Who?”
“A man.”
“Name?”
There was a pause.
“Damian Blake.”
Alexander's expression hardened.
Seraphina pulled away.
“Damian?”
Alexander nodded.
They rushed downstairs.
Damian stood outside the gates with his hands raised.
“Don't shoot,” he said.
Alexander walked toward him.
“You broke into my house.”
“I came because I know who killed Clara.”
Seraphina stared at him.
“Who?”
Damian looked directly at her.
“Your mother.”
Seraphina's heart stopped.
“No.”
Damian's expression was serious.
“She knows the truth.”
Alexander stepped forward.
“Why should I believe you?”
“Because I have proof.”
Damian pulled a small flash drive from his pocket.
“The truth about Clara is on this.”
Alexander took it.
Damian looked at Seraphina one last time.
“Your family has been lying to you for years.”
Then he walked away.
Seraphina stood frozen.
Alexander looked at the flash drive.
The contract marriage that had begun as a simple arrangement was becoming something far more dangerous.
And
neither of them knew that the biggest betrayal was still waiting to be uncovered
