Chapter 7 — The Jealous Ex
The following week, Seraphina tried to keep her distance from Alexander.
It wasn't easy.
They lived under the same roof.
They ate breakfast together.
They attended public events together.
And every time Alexander looked at her, she felt something she refused to name.
One evening, they attended a charity dinner.
Seraphina wore a simple elegant dress.
When she entered the ballroom, conversations briefly stopped.
Alexander was waiting for her.
“You look beautiful.”
She blinked.
“Thank you.”
His gaze lingered.
Then he offered his arm.
She took it.
Throughout the evening, several people approached them.
One man whispered to his friend,
“She's much prettier than Clara.”
Alexander heard him.
His expression immediately changed.
Seraphina noticed.
“Alexander?”
“Let's leave.”
“Why?”
“Now.”
Before they could leave, Damian appeared.
“Seraphina.”
She froze.
Alexander's body stiffened beside her.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
Damian smiled.
“I was invited.”
“You shouldn't be talking to my wife.”
Alexander's voice was cold.
Damian looked at him.
“Your wife?”
“Yes.”
“She never loved you.”
Alexander's jaw tightened.
Seraphina stepped forward.
“Enough.”
Damian looked at her.
“I still love you.”
“No.”
“You don't mean that.”
“I do.”
Damian reached for her hand.
Alexander stepped between them.
“Don't touch her.”
Damian laughed.
“You're pretending to be her husband.”
Alexander's eyes hardened.
“Be careful.”
“Or what?”
Seraphina grabbed Alexander's arm.
“Let's go.”
They left the ballroom.
In the car, silence filled the space.
Finally, Seraphina spoke.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For protecting me.”
Alexander looked at her.
“You shouldn't have to thank your husband for that.”
She smiled faintly.
“You're beginning to sound like a real husband.”
His eyes met hers.
“Maybe I'm becoming one.”
Her heart skipped.
She looked away.
Neither of them noticed the car following them.
The next morning, photographs of Seraphina and Damian appeared online.
The headline read:
A Billionaire's Wife Caught Meeting Her Former Lover!
Seraphina stared at the screen in disbelief.
“This is a lie.”
Alexander entered the room.
He looked at the photographs.
His expression became unreadable.
“Alexander…”
He placed the phone down.
“Who took these?”
“I don't kno
w.”
He looked at her.
“Neither do I.”
For the first time, doubt appeared in his eyes.
