The following day, I woke up with a bright smile and a newfound determination, I was going to
leave this forest and find a new life somewhere on the horizon. I was going to leave my past
behind and forget everything and everyone especially Tobias, of all the people in my former
past, I wanted to forget him the most.
"Alexa, I can feel it, we're soon going to leave this place and start afresh, and I promise you we'll
find another mate and be happy as we were meant to be. " I reassured Alexa, feeling optimistic.
"Of course we will. " She seconded my words.
Once more for the millionth time, we set out to find a way out of this inescapable forest, we
walked for a couple of hours and this forest felt endless.
"This feels like a freaking endless game. " I muttered in frustration, clearing past some trees, I
decided to get some rest and sat down.
"Moon Goddess please show me the way out of here, I need your guidance and if you don't
want me to escape, then at least just end my life."
After a few moments, I decided to continue on my journey. The whole day had finished without
any hope of finding a way out, I knew I couldn't give up, not just yet.
"Can you smell that?" Alexa asked, "I think a storm is about to start. "
I closed my eyes and concentrated on the smells, the air was moist and damp, and it kept
getting stronger. I opened my eyes and looked to the sky, noticing that gray clouds had started
gathering in the sky.
"We need to get cover." I pointed it out and Alexa hummed in approval.
We immediately started looking for somewhere to abide until the storm cleared, the task proved
to be harder than we thought, the forest consisted of many trees and zero to no caves.
I started getting impatient as the storm was getting nigher and nigher, if we get caught up in this
storm we might not survive.
You know what they say, every dark cloud has a silver lining. In my panic, I spotted a cave up
ahead and let out a sigh of relief.
I hurriedly walked towards it as rain droplets began pouring down, the storm was brewing faster
and faster.
Finally, I reached it, and just then the pouring increased vastly. I sighed and slid down the walls,
sitting down.
"We made it." Alexa let out.
"Yeah."
The storm didn't seem to be ending soon, it kept on getting stronger and stronger, at one point I
thought the cave would collapse, but it was stronger than I thought.
The cold breeze blew past me and I shuddered at its contact. I moved a bit further into the cave
trying to find some warmth, and yet again I prayed to the moon goddess, asking for her help and
guidance. I needed her guidance and protection, and I needed to find people.
Alas, I finally fell into a deep slumber, there was no pain or nightmares at all, and my night was
peaceful, for a while at least because I was awakened by a thud, abruptly getting up, I walked to
the entrance and realized that a tree had fallen and barricaded the entrance.
"Just great, looks like we're trapped once more, Alexa." I lamented.
"When things seem to get better, something just has to jinx it. " Alexa let out.
I sighed and sat down gazing into the darkness as I was wide awake now. I didn't bother to
sleep but kept on thinking about what to do next, and how I was going to get out of there. I
decided to wait for daybreak since it was still pitch black and I couldn't see much.
After a few hours, I presumed, I saw a light coming from deep within the cave, and a smile
made itself onto my face. I stood up and carefully walked deeper into the cave, the further I
went, the further the light departed from me. For some reason, I couldn't reach the source, just
great.
However, this didn't stop me from going further, I took breaks as I wandered in the cave but
never gave up, I couldn't give up.
The light started dimming and that meant that the day had ended. I sat somewhere in the cave
and rested there for the night.
A bright light shone on my face waking me up in the morning, I slowly opened my eyes one after
the other, the light was where it was yesterday.
I got up and continued with my journey of following the light to find its source.
"Let me take over, maybe we'll find the exit faster," Alexa suggested, and I didn't know why I
couldn't think of that earlier because it was a really smart plan.
She quickly shifted and broke into a run, as a wild creature she felt free as the air whipped
around her, it was exhilarating, she howled in excitement, jumping over rocks and being her.
The cave was denser than we had anticipated, on the outside it looked quite small but once you
entered the inside, it was like a different world. We were lucky that it was empty because I didn't
have any energy left to fight any creatures.
Alexa and I couldn't wait to get out of here and have something to eat because we hadn't eaten
for two nights now, my tummy was starting to hurt as it was hollow.
Alexa and I were about to take it when we suddenly saw an opening, it wasn't that prominent but
we could pass through it, I was sure of that, it looked old meaning it wasn't produced by the
storm and it was also the source that was emitting the lights we were following, I could hear
water outside like a waterfall, the water splashed and bubbled, it was pleasing to the ears.
Finally we could get out of this cave, finally, we'd have something to eat, finally, we could feel
freedom, I just hoped that we'd gotten out of this forest as well.
