My Second Chance

Chapter - 10

I woke up and looked around to see I was still in the living room, but it was very dark. I found my phone in the darkness and turned on the flashlight. I then checked the time and saw it was midnight. I put the blanket back, but I noticed there was a pillow in one of the rooms upstairs. I got closer and saw that it was one of my brother's pillows. I picked up the pillow and walked toward my brother's room. I opened it and quietly walked inside. Slow and steady. I can do this. I got to the bed and placed the pillow. I lifted my phone a little bit higher and noticed that it wasn't my brother who was sleeping. It was Aldea. I slowly backed away and closed the door. I went back to my room and sat on my bed. Did he or my brother put that pillow there? But why would either of them do that? I sigh and pull the covers over me, falling asleep again.

The next day, I woke up and did my morning routine, but when I went downstairs to eat breakfast I noticed that Aldea was already there. I looked around and didn't see my brother in sight. I went to the fridge and looked for any food. Thankfully, it was full. I grabbed some eggs and bacon and started cooking. After it was done, I put it on my plate and took some orange juice out of the fridge. I poured it into a glass, sat down, and started eating while scrolling on my phone. As I finished eating, I noticed that I didn't have my first two classes since the teacher left on a trip with other students and no one could teach us in his place. I put my plate and glass in the dishwasher and went back upstairs. I took out a book since I won't have that class. And checked if I had done everything that the teachers asked us to do. After I made sure I did everything, I just set an alarm on when to leave and sat on my computer, messaging Jenny.

She informed me that she would pick me up after my classes and drive me to the HQ. I took out the briefcase and put the outfit under my school uniform. I then attached a karambit knife to both of my legs. High enough that the skirt would hide it and low enough so I could grab it quickly if needed. I then attached the gun to my waist and covered it with a white shirt and then a black jacket. I looked in the mirror and made sure it didn't look suspicious. After I was sure, I sat down at my desk and opened the laptop. I was about to open the messages I received from Jenny, but a door knock interrupted me, so I closed the laptop and looked towards the door. It was my brother.

"Sis, why aren't you going to school yet?" He asked as he entered my room. I pointed my index finger toward my schedule and he nodded. "So first two classes, huh." He looked towards me. "I'll drive you to school since it will be along the way." I nodded and he left my room. I turned towards my laptop and sighed. It's going to be alright, it's all going to be perfect.

My alarm rang and I grabbed my backpack and walked downstairs. Putting on my shoes, I knocked on the door to alarm him and it worked. My brother and Aldea walked downstairs. I got into the back and them in front. As he was driving, Daniel kept texting me, making me laugh. He keeps texting me about the homework he keeps forgetting to do or about how cute his new puppy is. I tried to keep silent, but in the end, I tried to laugh out loud, which caused me to start coughing, and that hurt like hell. Both of them looked at me with sympathy in their eyes and I just glared at them. I don't need their sympathy, all I need is for summer to come quickly so I can start talking normally. Finally, we arrived at my school. I got out of the car and slammed the door.

I got to the entrance to be met with Daniels' shining smile. I roll my eyes playfully and we go inside together. By this point, everyone keeps staring at us. When my mother left, I thought it would be the perfect time to change things in school. The school knows that my mother left, so they can't even call her and they don't have my brother's number, so it's easy peasy. I put that player in his place and by that I mean I put on the bulletin board that he is dating a 50-year-old woman for her money. The teachers took it off, of course, but they couldn't stop the rumors from spreading. I haven't seen him for a few days already. Even though it was a lie, everyone thinks it's true.

But you might ask why they are staring at me? Well, because Daniel's girlfriend broke up with him and she kept talking trash about him. So what I did was slap her in front of everyone. Later, Daniel told me that she was the most popular girl in our school and no one ever dared to touch her since her father is the vice-principal of our school. But since my father is funding the school, they can't do anything to me. That's when I found out what power my family has over this school. That's a relief at least. But I also found out why that guy dated this girl.

We went to our classrooms and during break time I would give Daniel to copy off my homework. I don't mind since he would give me information about every single person. So for me, it was like an exchange. And for me, it was more profitable.

School finished, I went to the library and returned all the books I borrowed. Then I grabbed new books and went outside. The parking lot was empty, then a car pulled up in front of me. I went to the back and put the bag to my side. I pulled out my Fox mask and put it on. Letting loose my hair. I brushed my hair as Jenny started driving. I quickly undressed out of my uniform and threw on my black coat. The car stopped, I got out and jumped into the passenger seat. We got to the HQ and I saw a lot of people already waiting for us, including our boss. She stopped and got out. I saw her walk around the car and open my car while bowing. I rolled my eyes. This is way too much, even for old me. I got out and started walking towards the boss. I have never bowed and never showed any respect for anyone, even the boss. I stopped in front of him, Jenny stopped behind me and never lifted her head. Unlike her, I stared straight into his eyes.

"Sir, this is Fox. She got reincarnated. I have already checked if it's truly her or not. The only problem is her vocal cords are damaged so she can't speak", Jenny said without lifting her head. I flicked my fingers and saw her lift her head. I thought Jenny to never bow to anyone but me.

"I see," He said, his eyes never leaving mine. "I'm glad you are back, Fox. I was about to give someone else your office, but I'm glad you came back, so I won't need to give anyone else your position. I hope we can continue working well together" he said as he extended his hand toward me. I grabbed his hand firmly and shook it. Finally, I'm back. I smiled. He quickly retracted his arm and nodded.

I then walked past him, Jenny following behind me as we got into the golden elevator, and pressed the top floor. I walked past everyone and they moved out of my way. It's so good to be back. I went to my office and noticed that there was dust everywhere. Also, lots of flowers and candles. Even a picture of me on the desk. I pick everything up and threw it in the trash. Jenny quickly understood what I was doing and started dusting and throwing the trash away. After two hours, everything was clean. I sat down at my desk and started working. Jenny sat at her assistant's table in my office and started organizing everything. I relaxed in my seat and smiled. I'm so close yet so far away from eliminating him.
