The rain poured relentlessly, drumming against the pavement in rhythmic, unyielding beats.
I stood under the awning, watching Victoria's dramatic display outside with a detached calm. Her figure, once so poised and untouchable, looked pitiful in the chaos of the storm.
She stumbled, water soaking her dress until its elegant white fabric clung to her like a second skin. Her golden hair plastered to her face, she moved with theatrical desperation, her frailty amplified for effect.
She certainly knew how to play the role.
Her steps faltered, a sharp jerk of her ankle sending her crashing to her knees in the puddles forming on the gravel. “Alexander!” Her voice, barely audible over the storm, rang out in broken, pleading tones.
