I clutched my purse tightly as Alexander and I stepped out of the pack headquarters. His towering form moved with brisk efficiency beside me, his features composed but distant. My mind raced with strategies. I needed to keep his attention on me and away from Eden. That damned woman was a persistent thorn, and I couldn’t let her interfere further.
“Oh no,” I said, stopping abruptly and patting my purse in mock panic. “I think I left my wallet back at the pack’s treatment center.”
