Chapter 8: I Bid You Pick It Up!

671 Words
Mia Green deliberately loosened her grip, and the bank card fell to the ground. To bystanders, it seemed like she had been slapped by Anna. Mia's eyes were filled with surprise. Then, slowly, a trace of sadness and hurt appeared in her eyes, a mix of emotions that was hard to describe. Her voice trembled as she spoke softly, "Anna, I didn't mean any harm. I just wanted to help you. We used to be such good friends, and I want to make it up to you and to confess my mistakes and repent. I don't want you to hate me." In front of Larry Baker, Mia once again took the initiative. Because Anna clearly saw that Larry was glaring at her with eyes full of fury. Well, yes, it was all her fault. Mia is so kind and pure like a white lotus flower. It seems like that it was her own ignorance, unwillingness to accept Mia’s goodwill, and she acted wickedly towards Mia. Everything was her fault! She was the one who did all the evil! The more Anna thought about it, the sadder she felt. The grievances and misunderstandings she had endured in the past few days were almost making her burst into tears. "There's nothing else. I'll go to work first." Anna pretended to be strong as she finished speaking and turned to leave. Little did she know, a cold voice came from behind. "Stop!" Hearing this familiar voice, Anna couldn't help but pause, stopping in her tracks. "Mr. Baker, do you have any further instructions?" "Pick up the card on the ground!" Larry's voice was so cold that it felt like it could freeze a person's blood. Anna never imagined that the man she loved most in her lifetime would speak to her in such a cold and heartless tone. Tears flowed uncontrollably from her eyes. Anna didn't dare to look back. Her tone was firm, "If it didn't fall from my hand, why should I pick it up?" Anna's refusal only made Larry even more angry. He gritted his teeth and spoke word by word, "I'm telling you, pick it up!" In his icy voice, there was a boundless rage hidden within. "Forget it, Larry don't make Anna in a quanndary anymore. The card fell unintentionally from my own hands, I'll pick it up myself. Don't blame Anna." Mia once again timely stepped forward and played the role of the good person, picking up the bank card from the ground. Anna felt a sense of despair and closed her eyes then walked away quickly. No one knew that behind her calm voice, she already dissovled into tears. Ten minutes later. Anna, who had finally stopped her tears, walked out of the restroom and coincidentally ran into her colleague, Sophia. Sensing that something was wrong with Anna, Sophia looked surprised, "Anna, what happened to you?" Anna shook her head lightly, "It's nothing. I accidentally got an eyelash in my eye just now." "Oh, by the way, the customers at the table your in charge seemed to be looking for you. You should go and take a look." "Okay, thanks." When she arrived in the hall, Anna immediately caught sight of Mia waving at her, but she didn't see Larry Baker anywhere. Originally, Anna really didn't want to see Mia again. But she was still a customer in the restaurant. The manager was not far away, and she couldn't pretend not to see her. Anna gritted her teeth and walked towards Mia. She tried to lower her voice and asked, "What else do you want, Mia!" Now that Larry wasn't around, Mia still wanted to call her over to act for someone! Mia looked up, smiling at Anna, and said: “I want to go to the restroom, but this is my first time here and I don't know the way. Could you please help me lead the way” Although she was smiling, the gloat and provocation look in her eyes couldn't be any more obvious.
