SCARLET

Hiding means staying away.

I entered the room and my entire inside swirl up as I witness the scene that was in front of me. I saw my brother having s*x with a girl. I stood there idly still watching them until one of the girl's moans brought me back to reality. "Seriously Luca." They both jumped at the sound of my voice, the girl quickly covered herself and Luca just kept staring at me. "I leave you for an hour and you do this."

He quickly jumps up and covers himself without breaking eye contact for a minute. "I'm so sorry ma'am I didn't know he had a girlfriend." The girl said in a trembling voice. I looked at Luca and I saw how hard he's trying not to laugh at what the girl just said. "I'm his sister actually.. and you are?" I bluntly asked her. She looked at Luca and back at me, he face blushed red and she tilts her head to the ground before giving me an answer. "I- I'm Tori..... Tori Forbes."

"Tori I'd like for you to get dressed and get out I need to have a word with my brother " I moved my hand to the direction of the door trying to usher her out, she picked up her clothes and she walked to the exit. She had an embarrassed look on her face as she quickly leaves the room, once I noticed that she was completely out of the room and the house I slammed the room door.

I stared at Luca waiting for him to say something but he didn't, his embarrassment was all over his face and he stared at the floor. "What the the hell were you thinking?" I asked him. He didn't answer me, I slammed my hand on the desk demanding a response. He jumped in shock and fear and his gaze slowly met mine, at that point all of the angry that I felt turn into comedy and I started to laugh. "What's so funny?". He asked.

"The look on your face is to die for. Absolutely perfect example of shamed and disgrace." I said in a laughing tone. "I'm sorry Scar, I thought you were going to stay longer.". His statement made my comedy turn back into furiousness. "Why would you bring a girl in here Luca moreover why would you bring a vampire here?"

He rub the back of his neck and he begin to wear his clothes. "What if she's one of them... Like seriously you have to think before you do these things." He doesn't say anything he instead looked at me as if what I just said was utterly dumb. "Honestly Scar you worry too much, I mean it's been years since they came around. Like stop worrying and besides I'm a teenager that's what normal teenagers do."

"We're not normal people Luca we're different." I firmly said. Luca began to laugh and it made me feel really annoyed. "Why are you laughing? Nothing here is funny Luca I'm being serious." I opened my arms widely and I continuously look around looking for what's funny in the room. He stopped laughing and he throws his shirt over his head. "I'm laughing at you Scar, you're being unreasonable and very annoying."

I scoffed at his comment. "Oh I'm being annoying?". "Yes you are. I mean look around everyone here is normal except for you, and now you wanna drag me down with you. That's not gonna happen Scarlet.... Let me live my life without having to worry about how my cowardly sister would feel or how it would affect her."

He left the room. I just stood still wondering whether that's my little brother talking or someone was talking through him, it hurt to hear him talk to me like that and it also made me realize that my greatest fear was starting to take hold. I'm becoming a black hole that's sucking the joy from his life. All I've ever wanted to do was to protect Luca and myself but now it's like I'm doing the opposite.

All I've ever known these past years is that hiding means staying away, and that has been the motto of my entire life. But Luca just made it clear that he doesn't want that life and it hurts to know that.

Later that day he didn't talk to me and I didn't talk to him, I had just finished making dinner and it was time to eat. "Luca. Come to the table." It took some time before he dragged into the kitchen but he didn't reach where I was. He just stood at the doorway looking at the food without even meeting my gaze. "I'm gonna have mine in my room."

He walked to the counter and as he was about to grab his food I moved it to the other side causing him to let out a growl and stare at me. " You're gonna sit down at thid table and we're gonna have dinner together. You be in you rebellious teenage stage but this is still my house.... So Sit." I harshly sad as I point out to the table, he walked to the table and he sat down in the chair. I brought the food and took my seat before him, he stared in his bowl without looking at me.

"Luca look at me.". I said. He didn't move his eyes from the food and it made me angry. "I SAID LOOK AT ME DAMN IT!!!". I shouted at him and he looked up. That was the first time I've ever yelled at my brother and it made me feel terrible. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to get loud." I apologized to him. "I just want you to talk to me.... please I don't want us to fight." I added.

He kept staring at me. This had become the most awkward moment I've ever had in my life. "I'm not hungry." Luca pushed the bowl from before him and relaxed his body in the chair. "What do you want then?". I asked him raising my eyebrows. He rolled his to ever corner of the room before he brought his eyes back to mine and then he said... " Blood." I was surprised because this is the first time that Luca ever asked me for that, it took some time before I adjust my mind to what he said. I woke up from the chair and I reached for my bag, I took out the blood that Yuna had given me earlier and I brought it to him.

"Where'd you get it?" He grabbed it from me and took a sip. "A lady I met in the market." I said as I sat down in my chair. He raised his eyebrows and I smiled. "I wanted to give you some news when I got home earlier but to my shock I saw you with an actual news." He choked on the blood and instantly stopped drinking, he wiped his mouth and bowed his head down. "I'm sorry about that actually, it's just that I really like her and things happened."

"It's okay, I guess I overrated about the situation and for that I'm sorry." I extended my hand across the table until it met his and I rubbed the tip of my fingers over his hand. He smiled and I started to eat my food. "Tell me about the news." Luca said. "Mmmm.". I said as I chewed my food. "I got a job today. Helping to plan the royal wedding."

Luca suddenly burst into laughter as if a comedian just made a joke. He would stare at me and laugh and the stare at me again, until he said. "You a royal wedding planner?". He started to laugh again and it irritated me. "What so funny, I mean I have experience in planning parties.". I said with all the hope of redemption.

"Yeah sorry to break it to ya but planning a party of two ain't the same as planning a party of thousands.". I rolled my eyes at his comment and I stood up from the chair. "Well all I know i his that I have a job." I rubbed his shoulders and I went to my room leaving him alone. Once I entered my room I quickly retired to me bed due to all of the stress from a long day.

As I drifted off into sleep the occuring thought that this might be a bad idea and I shouldn't have accepted the offer. Being close to a royal family and a thousand of ancient vampires will be terrifying. The spell that hides my human scent from the vampires is not that strong and I'm afraid that I might slip up or the spell will drop and everyone will know what I am.

So yeah sometimes hiding is staying away.
