Elara watched me sit there, unmoved, and let out a deep sigh. "Damian and Selene have a child together. A boy. He inherited her heart condition. He needs a transplant. They've been waiting for the right moment to stage an accident. A car crash, something like that. Something that would let them take your heart without anyone asking questions. And if something goes wrong with you, they have a backup plan." She paused. "The baby you're carrying. They've covered every angle. It's either your heart or your unborn child's." The words hit me like a physical blow. I sat there, stunned, my chest so tight I could barely breathe. All the little moments, all the memories, strung together now into a picture so grotesque and terrifying I could hardly process it. I left the coffee shop like a ghost.
