Know Better

Mondays are particularly busy days because it sets the tone for the entire week. My responsibilities include, organizing weekly statistics, reviewing pending tasks, preparing the CEO's schedule and drafting a prioritized list of tasks and appointments. Ensuring important documents were approved allowing my week to move smoothly and efficiently but how do I do all of that while ignoring the elephant in the room. I stood at the center of Karl's office, reading out everything to be done today and a glimpse of what was to be done tomorrow. I didn't dare to look at Karl in the eye burying my head on my iPad. As soon as I finished reading, there was no other option but to look at Wong Karl. His eyes only refreshed my memories of Saturday. If he brought it up now, I'd faint. I knew I would. "Miss miller?" His voice echoed in my ear making me unconsciously straighten my posture. "Sir?" I screamed silently in my head while keeping my face neutral cause I knew what was coming next. "How long have you been working in this company JS?" "Sir?" My voice didn't hide the shock as a squeak was heard in my sentence. I clenched my teeth in response to the embarrassment, my embarrassment. "Did I stutter?" (No, but that wasn't the question I was expecting) I thought to myself. "5 years sir" Karl nodded slightly while examining my face. "You may go" he said. "yes sir". Turned to leave, quickening my pace so as to reach the door. "lastly, Miss Miller?" I paused and turned around to face him. "You will be moved closer to my office as you requested" *** I rubbed my temples as I took a sip of my coffee. I had some errands to run but couldn't leave cause I had to do something about this awkward situation I was in. This was unavoidable cause I'd get to see his face everyday so saving myself from future embarrassment was the least I could do for myself. I entered the office, after knocking twice at the door and closing it behind me. Karl raised his head from his PC and focused his gaze on me. His middle part mullet slightly ungroomed. "Sir, I would like to address an issue.... about Saturday" I paused as if I was waiting for a response but didn't get any just Karl's stare. "I sincerely apologize for my behavior last Saturday and take full responsibility of my actions." keeping my head down, gazing at my shoes. "Full responsibility?" His low voice made my stomach drop. "Yes, sir" "Interesting" Karl stood from his chair, his steps slowly closing in on me. I slowly backed up as he moved towards me making sure I kept the 3 feet distance away from him. "What exactly are you taking full responsibility for?" Closing up the gap between us as my back reached the door. Karl's dark eyes stared down at me, he brows norrowed. His face card was insane, effortlessly beautiful. I'm not gonna lie cause his looks were my type. "Everything... sir" without breaking the eye contact. I flattened my lips acknowledging how close we were. "Including the kiss?" "What?" my eyes flew wide open. Karl's gaze was void of emotions making it hard to see if he was serious or just f*****g around. "Miss miller, never take responsibility for what you are neither prepared tof nor fully aware of" I rode silently home, didn't say a word or check my phone till I got home. Had my bath, ate and got to my bed into my sheets before crashing out. "Kiss?" I tried surfing through my memories of Saturday but nothing came back. True I didn't remember everything that happened that night but this got me abruptly and how stupid I was earlier, staring at his lips back in the office in disbelief. "I'm sure I looked like a creep" Letting out a loud sigh while hugging my pillow. "Tessah!!! You i***t" At least the situation was cooled down...I guess. **** The traffic lights turned green followed by running engines. Karl glanced at his breguet grande watch while tapping on his steering clearly running out of patience, speeding up immediately the driver ahead of him moved. *ding* a text notification. "Karl where are you?" Lewis asked. "On my way uncle" On the arrival of his car, the butler welcomed him, leading him to his uncle. "Uncle?" "Karl my boy" sounding giddy as always. "Well as you know, it's time I go see my wife" revealing a bright smile. "So I need you to watch things for me while I'm gone" Karl's brows narrowed. "I don't want to get entangled in any of this Uncle" "Karl" Lewis's voice dropped sounding more sinister. "You'll just watch over my organization till I'm back. They know you and you know them. They know very well not to mess with you. I am aware you do not want anything to do with what I do" Karl clenched his teeth, taking a sip of the poured wine in his glass. "Yes Uncle" "Good" his voice returning to normal. "So how is work going?" "Moving good, there are ups and downs but we still at the top" taking a slow sip with his eyes fixed on Lewis. "I see your competitors don't stand a chance against the almighty JS" Karl scoffed. "The Wens are getting bolder but they still don't stand a chance" "I see, so....what are your plans on marriage?" Lewis flattened his mouth as he avoided Karl's gaze. Karl stared at Lewis before returning to drinking. "None" "You have to, you're not getting any younger Karl" Karl gulped down his drink, stood from his seat while adjusting himself, ready to leave. "Uncle, you should know better by now why I'm like this, but the others don't" " You've got your eyes on someone, don't you?" Lewis asked with a sly smile on his lips. "Rest well Uncle, you have a flight to catch" With that said, he left.
