KAINE’S POV The cold night air bites at my skin as I pace up and down my room. My fists clench and unclench. Every instinct screams at me to go down to the dungeons, to face Harriet and make her suffer for what she’s done. She deserves every ounce of pain I could give her and more. But I know… I know Carissa wouldn’t have allowed it. If she were here, she’d have stood between us. She begged me not to hurt Harriet before she died. But she’s not here. Carissa is gone. And my wolf… my wolf feels gone, too. The pain is unbearable. I feel a constant ache in my chest that refuses to dull. I press my hand against my ribs as if that could somehow keep the pieces of my shattered heart together. Tonight, we’re burning her body on the pyre.
