7 The night was uneventful and the morning shone bright and clear. What was also clear was that the household was too large for the store of food in the pantry. Caius and I stood in front of the few pantries in the small kitchen. Their doors were open and the contents, what few there were, had been placed on the tiny counter. They only filled half the space. “This might be a problem,” Caius mused as he studied the little bit of flour, eggs, and cheese that constituted the majority of our food stock. “I don’t think Rina was expecting a family of four to move in with her any time soon,” I reminded him. Matthew stood on my other side with a worried expression on his face. “I’m not sure how much money Mother has left from what Father left her, and I haven’t had much time lately to do
