Chapter Forty

The dungeon was freezing cold and damp even though it had no windows. There were about 15 cells, each only a pile of hay stacked inside for bed and that did little or no help to keep the cold at bay. I sat huddled in a corner of the first cell, directly opposite the dungeon's entrance. I hugged Aris to my chest to share my warmth as I waited for the voice. I couldn't help but curse my fate. My life was always one problem after the other and it seemed like everyone I cared about was being torn from me. From my mom to Tessa and Jumani to Agyris to Damie, now I was awaiting death with my two days old child. Life wasn't fair.
