"To lunch, ma'am," Julian said.
My tongue became twisted. "Did Mr. Bryan give you instructions not to tell me where exactly we'll be heading for lunch?" "No, Mr. Bryan did not give you instructions not to tell me."
"Oh, no, ma'am," he said. "I have never had a direct conversation with Mr. Bryan. But..." When I looked in the rearview mirror, he had a slight blush on his face. "Before I send you off, I'm expected to, well, drive around for a little bit."
He seemed worried.
"Don't fret," I told him. "I won't tell on anyone."
I attempted to calm my jittery feelings by settling back and watching the city go by while watching it glide by, but I must have been more exhausted than I thought at the time. My falling asleep was a result of a combination of factors, including the momentum of the car and the rash decision I made the previous evening. The door opening had the effect of jolting me awake.
“Hrble?” I said intelligently. I took a few steps back, feeling completely lost.
When I looked up at the driver, he said, "Here we are, ma'am," and when I did, I noticed the barest hint of compassion in his eyes. "Here we are," the driver said. I was overcome with an embarrassing sense of gratitude for it.
"Thank you," I said. After assisting me to get out of the automobile, I pretended to fix my clothes even though it was physically impossible because they were made to be unfixable and I searched for some way to determine where I had ended up. The narrative of my life.
To my astonishment, I found out that I had been brought to a little establishment run by a mother and daughter known as The Villa. The fact that there are a thousand mom-and-pop French restaurants called The Villa didn't really teach me anything useful, but at least the majority of them were tasty. Initially, I was taken aback by the fact that I had not been dropped off in front of an upscale sushi bar or a seductive French cafe; however, this only lasted for a split second. I steeled myself and then entered the building.
Just inside the door was where Silva Bryan was waiting for me to arrive. In spite of the fact that I was somewhat prepared to see him, he managed to completely throw me off my game.
Dammit. I'd completely forgotten how captivating he could be. Today he had a smattering of brown stubble on his chin, which drew attention to the strong angles of his jaw. When he spotted me, those silly big lips of his quirked into that tiny smile of his, and I had the feeling that those vivid green eyes, which were muted in the dim lighting of the cozy small restaurant, were staring right through me.
He addressed her as "Miss Wayne."
I made an effort to throw my hair back in an arrogant manner, but because I wasn't used to wearing heels of that height, the action caused me to stumble.
Before I could land on my bottom, a massive and welcoming hand caught me, and then Bryan began to draw me closer to him. His slender, chiseled frame practically vibrated with electricity, and he looked down at me the whole time.
"Be careful," was the advice he gave. After that, he released me in a kind manner.
I had to force down a swallow. I addressed him as "Mr. Bryan"
He extended his hand to me. “Please. Let's take a seat, shall we?
I locked my eyes on him while clutching my bag and held the strap in front of me like a talisman that could deter him from approaching me. He let go of his hand, which he managed to make look exquisite despite the fact that it was an awkward action, and he turned toward the dining room. I decided to follow him.

We maneuvered our way through the crowded restaurant. A handful of them looked up from their eating and gazed at him as he walked past, but the most of them paid him no attention. I, in my outfit of a hooker on a holiday, drew a great deal more attention than anyone else. That did not sit well with me at all. We were, mercifully, assigned a table in the far corner of the dining room, which turned out to be a cozy little booth. I took up one half of the bench and placed my bag next to me in an effort to dissuade him from sitting with me, but he made no attempt to do so. Instead, he slid in across from me, poured two generous glasses of red wine, and ordered the asparagus salad for both of us from the waitress who stood next to our table, practically vibrating at attention. I watched as he did all of this.
She responded with an enthusiastic "Of course, Mr. Bryan." She didn't even glance at me. When we were getting married, I couldn't help but worry if I would also need to get used to situations like that.
If only if only if!
Dammit.
As she dashed off to the kitchen, I brushed down the white tablecloth that was underneath my hands. I responded by saying that I was not a fan of asparagus.
It was he who stated, "You will be with this asparagus." "It satisfies my appetite." I observed as he ruffled up his napkin and then placed it on his lap before continuing. I coveted that paper towel. I did the same thing, despite the fact that the tablecloth was so long that it seemed like it could easily serve the purpose as a napkin as well. I pushed it out of the way and draped the cloth over the top of my garish red skirt.
"Would you mind if I asked what you are wearing?"
I raised my head.
Waters was sitting in the seat that faced me, with his head c****d at an imperious angle and one arm propped up on the back of the booth. He changed into another linen shirt today, and much like the one he wore yesterday, it was expertly fitted to perfection; however, he did not wear a tie with it. It appears that every day in the Empire empire is just another casual Friday.
Simply something I had lying around from my undergraduate days, I explained. Which was accurate to a large extent.
He had one brow that was perfectly arched. His emerald eyes glinted. He answered, "I see," but his tone of voice made it clear that he didn't actually see anything at all. I felt as though I had been brought in front of the principal like a penitent schoolgirl.
