Chapter Ten When she awoke eight hours later she found herself in a small but comfortable bedroom. The bed was large and the sheets were clean. She was under the top sheet, naked. The red welts had become faint pink stripes. The marks made by the leeches were entirely gone. The sudden memory of them caused her to tremble and look panic stricken around the room. She was surprised to see an older white woman sitting in a chair in the far corner near the door. A window was open and white curtains lifted and fell with the soft breeze.
