Chapter 4: Facing The Truth. Raven's POV The truth settled into my chest like a heavy stone. Even if Cesar knew about the baby, it wouldn’t change anything. He didn’t want me. He didn’t care about me. He had made that abundantly clear. And as much as it shattered my heart, I had to accept that the man I had loved was no longer mine. The man who was now sitting behind that desk, staring at me with cold, indifferent eyes, was a stranger and I couldn’t hold onto him any longer. Taking a deep breath, I reached for the pen in front of me, his favorite pen, I recalled correctly, with heavy heart, I press it down onto the paper, scrawling my signature with shaky strokes. It was over. With that one signature, I severed the last thread connecting me to Cesar. “I, Raven Blackwood, accept your rejection, Alpha Cesar Throne.” I whispered, my voice hollow, echoing in the quiet room. Cesar didn’t react. He didn’t even flinch. His eyes barely flickered as he glanced at the papers before him, confirming that everything was in order. There was no relief, no satisfaction, no regret. It was as if I had been an inconvenience in his Life. One he was finally free of. Without another word, I turned around, my legs feeling weak bbeneath me. I didn't wait for his acknowledgment-I didn't need it. There was nothing left to say between us. My hand touched the doorknob, and as I turned it, a strange calmness settled over me. I walked out of his office, the sound of the door clicking shut behind me like the closing of a chapter in my life. The halls of the pack house, once so familiar, felt like they were closing in on me, suffocating with memories I didn't want anymore. I no longer belonged here. I was no longer the Luna of this pack. And soon, I was sure I would no longer be part of it anymore. As I stepped outside, the cool air hit my face, and for the first time in days, I felt the smallest sliver of relief. The weight of Cesar's rejection, the humiliation of being cast aside-it was overwhelming, but | wasn't just living myself anymore. I was living for the life growing inside of me. And if I wanted us to survive, I couldn't remain in this place. I made my way back to the small, rundown place I had been staying in since my status had been stripped away. It was hardly more than a shack, barely livable, but it was the only refuge I had. I opened the door and stepped inside, already preparing to pack what little I had left. But as I entered, I froze. There, standing in the middle of my meager living space, was Selene. Her smirk was venomous, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction as she looked me up and down. She was dressed in one of her usual elaborate, expensive dresses, her blonde hair perfectly styled. She looked every bit the woman who had stolen my life. “Well, look who it is,” she said with a mocking lilt in her voice. “The former Luna of the pack. How does it feel, knowing everything you had is now mine?” My heart raced, but I kept my mouth shut, refusing to give her the satisfaction of seeing me break. She stepped closer, her heels clicking against the floor with each deliberate step. “Cesar is mine now,” she continued, her voice dripping with malicious glee. “He always has been. And the day after tomorrow, he’s going to announce me as the new Luna of this pack. Officially.” Her words struck a deep wound in me, one that I had been trying so hard to numb. Cesar had never made any public announcement when I became Luna. Our bond had been something quiet, almost hidden-like I wasn’t worth the acknowledgment. But Selene? She would have everything I had never been given. I tried to keep my composure, to keep the tears from falling, but I couldn’t hold back the pain that washed over me at her words. “Why would you do something like this? How can you open your eyes and destroy a marriage? Are you that evil? That disgusting?” I said, my voice breaking despite my effort to stay strong. Selene’s expression darkened, her eyes narrowing dangerously. “Excuse me?” she said, her voice low and threatening. Before I could say another word, she was on me. Her hand lashed out, striking me across the face with brutal force. My head Snapped to the side, the sting of her slap radiating through my skin. I stumbled, trying to regain my balance, but she didn’t stop. She shoved me, hard, and I fell to the floor, gasping as pain shot through my body. “You think you can talk back to me? After everything you’ve done?!” Selene screamed, her voice high-pitched with fury. “You should have never been with him in the first place! You’re nothing but a worthless omega! A weakling! Cesar was never yours to begin with!” She kicked me in the side, and I cried out, curling up to protect my stomach. I couldn’t let her hurt my baby. Not my child. “I’m going to make your life miserable,” she spat, her voice filled with venom. “The moment I become Luna, I’ll make sure you regret ever setting foot in this pack. You’ll wish you had never been born, let alone dared to take Cesar from me.” The room spun as the pain coursed through my body. I wanted to fight back, to defend myself, but I was too weak. All I Could do was lie there, trembling, as she continued her assault. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Selene stopped. She stood over me, breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling with the exertion. “You’re pathetic,” she hissed, before turning and heading toward the door. “Remember this, Raven. The next time you ever think of defying me, it’ll be much worse.” With that, she stormed out, leaving me alone in the silence of the room. I stayed where I was, curled up on the cold, hard floor, my body aching, my soul shattered. I had lost everything. Cesar, my position, my dignity. And now, even my safety was in jeopardy. Selene would never stop. As long as l was here, as long as I existed, she would torment me until there was nothing left. Tears slid down my cheeks as I clutched my stomach, feeling the faint stir of life within me. My baby. The only thing I had left. “I'm so sorry,” I whispered, my voice shaking with sobs. “I’m so sorry you’ll never know your father. I’m sorry you’ll never have the life you deserve. But I promise you, I’ll protect you. I'll keep you safe, at any cost.” It was in that moment, lying on the floor of the place I once called home, that I made my decision. I would leave this pack. I would run, far away from Cesar, from Selene, from everything that had caused me so much pain. I would survive -for my baby. And no one would ever hurt us again.
