“You......are you pregnant?” After a minute of silence, Emma hears the trembling voice from herself.
Elizabeth turns her head toward Austin, smiles at Austin with so much happiness in her eyes, then looks at Emma: “Emma, can you please be the godmother of my kid when the baby comes to the world. Do you remember we made an appointment before? We will be the godmothers of each other’s children.”
Yes, they indeed made an agreement. Emma still remembers herself saying that if Austin and she had children in the future, she would let Elizabeth be the godmother.
Emma could not believe that Austin and she had been a couple in name for two years. She once doubted that there was something wrong with Austin. Unexpectedly, four months after their divorce, he is having a child with Elizabeth. So, nothing is wrong with him. It is just that Emma was the wrong person.
Austin is staring at Emma and about to say something. Emma asks first:“How far along are you?” Emma thought that maybe it was just Elizabeth was fat, so her stomach looked bigger.
Elizabeth looks down and fondles her belly with a victorious smile, then she raises her head, looking at Emma:“six months.”
It is a victor's stance, and there is a provocation in her eyes.
It had only been four months since she and Austin divorced, but Elizabeth has already been pregnant for six months. She had thought that they might separate one day after a two-year asexual marriage, but she had never imagined that it would be this tragic and unbearable.
I should have taken all the money and houses. How stupid I was to leave with just three suitcases. At least, I should have slapped him in the face at city hall. No wonder seldom had he come home in the last few weeks before the divorce. No wonder Austin insisted on compensating her with two sets of houses, and tens of millions of alimony. It turns out that he has more unspeakable secrets. She thought she did not care anymore, but it still hurts and makes her so mad.
Emma takes a deep breath. She doesn't know whether it is pain or tightness in her chest. It feels like something is holding her neck, and making her unable to breathe. If she hadn't been holding on to the railing on the side of the balcony, this body might not be able to support her standing here.
“Emma……” Austin frowns, and tries to support Emma with his hand looking at her with a hint of sympathy. Emma takes a step back dodging his hands.
“Congratulations, I gotta go.” Emma says ironically.
She has just taken a few steps when Austin grabs her wrist. Austin pulls her and makes her turn around facing himself: “Emma, there is something you do not know. I will explain it to you later.”
Emma is resisting the urge to slap him in the face, and asks him in a trembling voice, “Does this child belong to the Wells Family?”
Austin:“Yes, but......”
“Then what else is there to explain? Congratulations.” Emma interrupts him and gets rid of his hand. She takes a few steps away without looking forward, and bumps into a muscular chest.
“Are you okay?” The man’s voice is deep and nice, which sounds inexplicably a little bit familiar. And there is a nice slight smell of cologne on the man's body.
Emma raises her head in shock: “It is you?”
During the time Emma left New York to travel around, she bumped into the man in front of her when she was on a boat diving in Aruba. At that time, she was crying with tears all over her face. It was this man who kindly handed her tissues. There was also a little girl traveling with this man and sharing a few candies with her.
The man wraps his arm around Emma's shoulders, and looks down at Emma, who is holding back tears in her eyes before looking at the man behind her.
He presses her head towards his muscular chest, then lowers his head to her ear and whispers: “Ex?”
Emma bites her lower lip and nods, then she hears a sentence that makes everyone on site shocked.
This man says to Austin:“Sorry Mr. She is taken.”
“So baby, don't you want to introduce us?” This man turns his face to Emma and asks.
Austin's jaw clenches ,and a hint of hostility flashes in his eyes.
“Daddy, why are you still here?” a cute voice is coming from behind.
Emma's body stiffens and immediately moves away from this man, seeing that a little girl who she also met on the diving boat before is tugging at the hem of the man's shirt.
Emma:“He and she.....” Emma doesn't know how to make a story to prove that she has moved on.
This girl is looking up at them with a understanding smile on her face. She seems to figure out what is going on.
“Daddy, what is wrong? I am starving. I want to have some spaghetti.”
The man holds Emma's hand with one hand and the little girl with the other: “Nothing important. Let's go grab some food somewhere else, we'll talk later.”
In just ten minutes, Emma received too much information that she couldn't respond in time and could only follow this man numbly.
“Emma.” Hearing Austin's voice coming from behind, Emma pauses slightly and walks away without looking back.
Austin is stunned in the place, watching her following the man and walking away. He says nothing to Elizabeth until Emma's back disappears:“ I'll have someone take you home.”
In the restaurant called Rainbow Room
The little girl consoles Emma: “Don't cry, Miss. You did a good job.”
Emma could not help but smile: “Are you sure?”
“Of course. It is definitely his loss.” The little girl adds.
“Thank you, sweetheart.” Emma pats the girl’s head slightly.
“This is your daughter?” Emma asks.
“She……” He is about to answer her, but interrupted by the little girl:“Miss , why are you crying every time I see you? Just now, you were holding my father and crying.”
Emma thinks for a while and says solemnly: “I hugged your dad because......it's because of some special circumstances. You may not understand what it means to sacrifice yourself to help others. Your dad is such a good person, so do not tell all of this to your mother and get him in trouble, OK?”
The girl seems to understand. She nods and raises her phone: “I have already sent a message to my mother to tell her our location. Don’t worry, I will keep my mouth shut. You can tell her everything by yourself later.”
Emma chokes on a mouthful of water and almost sprays it all over them. She stands up hurriedly: “I'd better leave now.” She grabs the bag on the sofa:“Thanks for everything you have done today. I gotta go, goodbye.”
Emma slips away so fast that she disappears before the man could say anything.
He slaps the girl on the head slightly and says:“You scared her.”
The little girl looks puzzled. She was just telling her that her mother was coming to have dinner with us. Why is she running away?
“Why don't you go chase her?” The little girl asks
The man smiles:“It depends on fate, but I believe we will meet again.”
