SSGT WOLFE’s POV
Yeah the jungle. Hot humid and miserable. Nothing too note worthy, although my kid wrote me back telling me all about her new boy friend and how she works at a mechanic shop. I’m proud of her for going after it and doing well in school to boot. I looked around the wet jungle, nothing besides rain poured. Drops rolling off my helmet and onto my face. My hair that was once long, boasting feathers in it was shaved for the military. Now it’s been six months and it is finally growing back. Behind me was a platoon of twelve of the most elite fighters the military has, LRRPS. We are going into a village to exterminate the problem. Charlie keeps cutting us off from the small villages and now we finally have a target. Or we will become a target. Honestly it’s hard to tell. The blackened jungle loomed over us and between sleep deprivation and nerves we were jittery. I looked to the left of me and there stood my right hand man, SGT Thorne. He was a master mind of tactics and if I wasn’t mistaken I could have sworn that he participated in war before. He deemed it safe to continue on with our invasion.
Running in we slaughtered Charlie. I’ll spare some of the details, but after the air strike we left the area only as a hole in the ground. I couldn’t believe it. Now sitting in the barracks we rested. Thirty hours no sleep and we were all exhausted. I know everyone here just wanted to go home and be with our families. Thorne was in the cot next to me talking about how he actually fought in WWII,wouldn’t tell me which side he was on and he told me not to tell anyone. I suppose the two of us became close, now we were pretty much brothers in arms and brothers. We did a blood oath to remain that way. The sleep came to us and we were out.
The next morning was reported that Charlie had lost some of their supply chain on the eastern side due to us. We were the military’s last ditch effort. Nixon promised to get us home and out of this war and I hope that he means it. Thorne, asked me if he would be able to stay with me when I came home and I agreed. He was quite smart and could be an amazing draftsman or engineer. I’m excited to come home and meet Mark and see Skye and Splash. Everyone can meet Allan Thorne and it’ll be a good time. Just taking this jungle thing one day at a time.
