I don't know what kind of establishment stays open at 12 pm on Christmas morning, but who am I to judge? Here I am drowning my sorrows in some not-so-Christmas spirits. This place is filled to the brim with sad, miserable people like me. "Haven't you had enough?" the bartender asks with a worried look on his face. "I know what you must be thinking." I'm interrupted by a hiccup "You're probably thinking '"What could be weighing so heavy on her shoulders? She's pretty, well-dressed. Probably has everything in the world." Well you want to know what? I'll tell you what.'" I paused to gesture for another drink "I just caught my boyfriend, of seven long years, with another woman. It is absolutely gut-wrenching to be in the position I am in right now." I let out a sigh to stop the tears "You know, to my parents, this was just a business deal. Transactional, you know. But to me, it was real, all of it. The pain I'm feeling is real. This ring I bought is real." I sighed as I tossed all the gifts I had bought Danny into the air. "One more drink wouldn't hurt. Here, on me." the bartender slides over a tall pink during to me. "Thank you." I began to sip on my drink.
"Those are pretty valuable pieces of jewelry you're carelessly throwing around, Miss." I turned to see a tall dark-haired man holding up the items I had bought earlier the day. "Keep them. I won't be needing it anymore." I said as I gulped down the contents of my pink drink, "Are you sure about that?" he replied. How dare this man question me? Can he not see that I am in a crisis? "It's useless now anyway." I grumbled "I can't imagine why such a beautiful, not to mention, expensive ring would be useless to anyone." He says with the slightest smile on his face. "You like it so much? You wear it." I snap, clearly not in the mood for this foolish man's nonsense. "Maybe I will." he smiles and pleases the ring on his finger "Well what do you know. It's a perfect fit." I choked on my drink. Is this man insane? I don't know him from another brick on the wall, and he's wearing the wedding ring I'd bought for Danny.
"Asher." he said "Excuse me?" "My name." he says with a cool expression as he sits next to me at the bar. It took all the energy I had not to roll my eyes at this man. "Seeing as you're so willing to entertain me Asher. Why don't you buy me a drink. I don't think my good friend over here will serve me anymore." I say nodding toward the bartender. "Alright, I'll get you whatever your heart desires, Miss?" "Olive." I interrupted "Olive" my breath hitched as my name rolled off his tongue so slowly it sent shivers down my spine. "But. It. WILL. Cost. Ya." He says leaning in with every word. This incredibly attractive man is hitting on me, the heat is rising in my cheeks but I can't bring myself to pull away from him. As much as I hate to say it, I wanted this. I wanted every bit of attention he had to give me.
