MY LUNGS SEIZED with an awful, cut-off sound.
Aeris Greyhound's thick, wavy blond hair was swept back over his high-arched eyebrows and hypnotic eyes. He was tall and trim with broad shoulders and stood with his hands hooked in his black suit pants pockets, his thumbs peeking out. His posture was causal, yet it wasn’t a word I’d use to describe him. Perhaps oppressive, or invasive, or . . .
Sexy.
He was a towering figure, standing over six feet tall. His presence filled the room, and you could feel the air crackling with his power. His eyes were cold and calculating, as if he were analyzing every move you made. He seemed to know exactly what you were thinking, and it was impossible to lie to him. You could feel the fear rising up in your chest, as you realized that you were at his mercy.
He appeared at the darkened entrance and stood there for a while, his silhouette watching us. Before I could say a word to him, Calandra was rushing over to him and whispering unto his ear. I couldn't see his face, couldn't see the reaction on them to be able to tell what she f*****g told him.
After a short while, Aeris steps into the light and his face remained poker, as expected. I couldn't read his face. My eyes moved to Calandra, who snuk behind his back, her hands clasped together in front of her, a big sinister smile on Her wide lips. What the hell did she tell him?
I watched Aeris approach me, and all I could see was the young, handsome man I fell in love with five years ago. The werewolf I loved long before the moon goddess saw us fit and mated us.
Aeris Greyhound was known as the king of Alphas and nicknamed the two-faced alpha. This was because he ran an underground organization many other wolves didn't know about. He ran a society which he'd inherited from his father after he died.
This society or organization, as it may be called, was called the black lotus. It's an organization that deals with all sorts of things the day light should never hear about.
Aeris's late father was one of the most powerful and feared Alphas. He reeked of power, and he was feared and respected all the same. He was rumored to be do all the minds of inhumane things possible, still the police of the above world has still been unable to catch him and bring him to justice. He was rumored to make wolf sacrifices every new year and also involved in illegal sales of humans. He was also rumored to control one of the biggest drug organizations, which was believed to be owned by a human, but in truth, it belonged to Aeris's father, Carlos Greyhound. My mother was right for hating them. If only I'd listened. But I loved Aeris....and that would never change.
Right after his death, Aeris was the one who inherited everything, plus being the next Alpha. His other brothers, including an illegitimate child all felt anger and rage, and thus the Greyhound household war began. His older brother, Cooper, hid his motive well, but it was expected of him to want to take all his younger brother had to himself. The youngest brother, Theon, doesn't seem to care about any of this, but he can not be overlooked.
The Black Lotus society was also called the shirtless society. I have never been to the underground since my marriage to Aeris and have been unable to prove all of this rumors, but I have seen Aeris a few number of times leaving the back basement stone steps shirtless, a masquerade mask covering his face. Sometimes, he's accompanied by two other shirtless men. But I've never asked him anything.
He was like a shadow - always present, but never seen. He seemed to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time, and people whispered about him in hushed tones. There were stories of people who had disappeared without a trace, and others who had been found dead under mysterious circumstances. But no one dared to speak out against him for fear of sharing the same fate.
His hands were covered in scars, and there were rumors that he had fought in a hundred battles. And I always wondered if those were literal statements, because where did these wars happen? His eyes were cold and hard, and there was no emotion in them - only a ruthless, calculating intelligence. He was always impeccably dressed, and his clothes were tailored to perfection. But it was his smile that was the most chilling - a thin, mirthless grin that never reached his eyes in nights like that.
Aeris Greyhound has also been rumored to have killed his own father in order to take over everything he owned. But every time I see him, all those rumors become water, and they flow away. Because I loved him too greatly, and nothing could ever make me hate him.
"You're here, son," Rhema spoke impatiently. "She knows about the underground, Aeris."
Wha....what?
I saw the change in Aeris's eyes and knew instantly that whatever happened underground was something he never wished for me to find out about. The look on his eyes hardened as they bore holes into my face. Rhema said this freely with Calandra here. Does that mean......she has been to the underground? Aeris had trusted her more than he trusted me?
"That's a lie, I dont know what she's talking about, please....." My voice trembled.
Still, Aeris watched me, his face devoid of emotions. What was going to be my fate now? Would he kill me because he thinks that I've seen all the rumored inhumane things that he does underground? But it makes no sense. I am his Luna, a Luna is supposed to know everything, all the businesses surrounding her pack. I am supposed to be a part of it all and help him out. I didn't care what I had to do. I would do anything....
"Aira has been caught with some human man outside, in the city, too..." Calandra cut through the thick silence.
That about just cuts it, but before I could reply, Aeris is going down, squatting in front of me, cutting off my breathing.
