Chapter 4

1015 Words
Natasha's Pov I couldn't believe Saxton. Would say something like that. He barely knows me, and he's talking about dating. So funny. Thank God I was able to get him to go home. I sat with Mr. Smith in his studies. He has requested to see me. I dropped my kids off with the nannies. "You wanted to see me," I asked. By the way, Mr. Smith was staring at me. I could already guess something was on his mind. He cleared his throat and held my hands. "Natasha. The reason I called you here is really simple," he began. "I recall one time you said you wanted a good life for both you and your child, right?" I nodded. "Yes. That is what I am still working toward," I said, trying to sound as convincing as I could be. Mr. Smith shook his head. "I know. But don't you think your kids would grow up unhappy?" he asked. I stared at him in confusion. What did he mean by my kids might grow up unhappy? "What do you mean?" I asked. "I mean. I think it's high time you let someone into your life," he continued. I let out a harsh sound from my throat. "But I am busy at the moment." "Saxton seems like quite a remarkable young man with a promising future. He seemed responsible. And you also saw the way he was playing with the kids? They love him," he continued. I definitely saw that. I agreed; Saxton was good with my kids. He was attentive and all that. But how can I go out with a man I don't love? "Men are distractions. I went to college to study and get into medical school. I don't think I have the time to date." I tried to make up an excuse. "There's always time to date, my dear. I don't want the kids to grow up without a father. I understand your past and all that. But you don't have to dwell on the past. Try to give love a chance, okay?" he pleaded. I sighed in resignation. I have to try this. If not for anyone, for my kids and Mr. Smith. "I'll think about it," I said and smiled softly. Mr. Smith smiled warmly and hugged me. *********** "I'll go on one date with you. Just one date," I said to Saxton. Of course, he was following me around campus like a lost puppy. I just had to go on this date with him. He didn't seem that bad. "Are you for real?" he asked, the spark so obvious and bright in his eyes. "Yes." I nodded. "I'll pick you up by 7pm. Is that okay with you?" he asked. I nodded. ********* "This is the worst date you've ever had, yeah?" Saxton asked me. He picked me up by 7 as he had said, and when we got there, the reservation was cancelled, and now I am stuck in this stupid alley trying to shield from the rain because Saxton had given his driver the day off and told him to pick us up by 10. Typical Saxton. Tell me how this isn't the universe's way of telling me that agreeing to go on this date with him wasn't a mistake. Someone should remind me not to do this again. "Should I say this is the best date? Well, this was quite unique," I complimented dryly. Saxton got the dry humor and nervously fidgeted with his fingers. I didn't feel sorry for him at all. "Why would you poorly plan a date? Did I ask you for anything special? You would have taken me on a simple date. But no, you wanted to make a mark," I yelled angrily. I could tell Saxton didn't know what to do as he stared at me, mute. "I'll make it up to you," he promised. "I don't think you'll have the chance to. The rain will stop; let's just go home," I said. **************** Saxton sat in front of the coffee shop; he normally meets Natasha and doesn't see her. It seems she was avoiding him. She didn't pick up his calls or reply to his SMS. Saxton decided to let her be for now so she might still be angry over what happened. Once he finally saw Natasha passing by, he wanted to go over and talk to her, but he knew she might still be angry and also kept his distance. Natasha noticed Saxton had stopped chasing her around the campus. She reminded herself it was for the better and continued with her work. But the more she stays without him, the more she wants him by her side. "Hey," Natasha waved to Saxton. They were in an isolated area of the school. He walked over to her and smiled. "Hey," "Um... I haven't been seeing you around me in a while. You know, you're always trying to get on my nerves," she said, trying to sound uninterested. "I thought you might still be angry, you know," he replied. "Maybe I'm not anymore," she ruffles her hair. "Really?" Saxton asked, trying to catch my trace of her being uncomfortable around him. "Saxton," she called. "Yes?" he answers. "Doesn't it bother you that I have kids? Three kids at that," she asked. Saxton burst out laughing. He couldn't believe she was the one saying this. "Are you being for real right now?" he asked. "Yeah. You know. You have many girls on campus that would want to date you and all that. But you chose to disturb me and follow me around campus," she said. "Well, let's just say you gave me quite a challenge, and I simply accepted it. I love a big challenge," he responded. "So you're saying it doesn't matter if I have kids; you would still follow me?" She asked again, trying to clear her doubt. "Believe me. Even if you were divorced with 5 kids, I'd still choose you," he said. Natasha felt her heart swell. She moved closer to him and raised her toe.
