The Newly Transferred Student

CHAPTER TWO

Dorky Me

One day after classes, I was so thirsty and coupled with the hot weather of autumn I really needed a drink to cool off. I quickly rushed to the vending machine and inserted a coin, I was waiting for a drink to drop but got none. I was hitting the machine till I was frustrated, I gave it a vigorous kick that attracted the attention of the students by the hallway. I looked back using a finger to flick off my hair from my face wondering why no one wants to help me out and found them all standing in pairs pointing and laughing at me!!. Oh my God that was so embarrassing.

'Can't you all be good to me atleast for today, this is my first day in this God damn school for Christ's sake' I thought in my head.

I've never been more embarrassed till I heard a girl say;

"Hey, isn't that the newly transferred student?. Seems like she's so old fashioned anyway. " Everybody by the hallway laughed.

" Yeah she doesn't even know how to operate a vending machine, so wacky". Another student said and there was another round of laughter . I was so piqued to discover that I was actually the topic. And coming to think of it, I've used vending machines all my life as a student but I don't still understand why this particular one is making me a laughing stock here.

"C'mon get the f*ck out". I cursed still hitting the machine not minding the people behind me saying lots of heart breaking words.

Soon I heard a voice ;

"Hey what's going on here?"

I turned around and saw a pretty girl whose beauty was rather very stunning that I couldn't help but Mope at her.

"I ask again, What the f*ck is going on here?" The pretty girl asked again as her adorable face gave way to a slight peek of lack of patience. Then the Same girl who made that first comment spoke up.

"Snr Cora, that newly transferred student doesn't know how to operate a vending machine." Everybody laughed again.

"Shut up!" Came the voice of the pretty girl and everywhere was instantly quiet. She looked at me, but as soon as her eyes met mine I couldn't help lowering them, I was so embarrassed.

With her hands behind her back she studied each student faces as she walked.

"Is that the main reason why you should laugh at her? Do you know how to do everything?" She moved to the same girl with a smile tugging on her thin lips.

"And you Wendy, have you suddenly forgotten that you once couldn't use a water dispenser?" There were muffled laughter and murmuring and me?

I was super happy when I saw the so called Wendy hide her face in shame because obviously she didn't expect anyone to still remember that.

'Oh my God, how could she still remember it?! It's been three years already ' Wendy thought. She was really embarrassed.

Cora turned swiftly

"Shut up!, now everybody disperse!"

Everybody obeyed her again!

I was surprised, what kind of authority does she have that makes students to respect her like this?

I looked up and saw her coming towards me, I searched her with my eyes looking for a tag but found none!. 'What? no way, there should be one!. I looked hard but still found none.

This time she was already beside me

'Oh dear lord what a beauty!!' I couldn't help staring at her, I was totally mesmerised by such beauty

"Here"

"Huh?" My gaze immediately left her face and fell on her hands, she was holding a can of drink towards me.

"Um, thanks." I was so confused as I took it from her.

'How did she do it?' I looked at her pointing at the machine making an effort to talk but my lips were glued together. Fortunately she understood my gesture.

"Yeah 'bout that, I don't know but this particular machine is one of a kind. Once you insert a coin, you press this button behind it before a drink can drop. "

"Ohh, I really embarrassed myself " I said feeling pity for myself.

"Yeah big time " She said and suddenly ;

"But no worries no one will ever hold that against you as long as am here, okay? "

"Okay thanks "

"You're welcome."

I opened the drink and took a little sip cuz I was no longer thirsty while Cora watched me, making me really uncomfortable.

"So, I heard you are a transferred student?"

"Yeah"

"So which class? "

"Grade ten, Class B." I replied.

"Are you being serious? "Cora asked really excited.

"Yes, What? " I was confused

'Why's she excited?'

"Am in grade ten too."

"What? How? I mean you just yelled at some students some minutes ago, so how come you're my classmate?"

"Yeah 'bout that, figured they were all juniors so I played the role of a senior. " As soon as I heard that my jaw dropped.

"You mean I was just laughed at by my juniors?"

" Yeah but it's nothing, now that we're in the same class we can deal with them later. " She said with a smile as she hugged my shoulder from the side.

'Oh my gosh, this is the beauty hugging me!!🤗 😊, and to think of she's my class mate.'

I suddenly realized something.. She wasn't in my class during classes.!!

"Um, but are you also in class B? "

"Oh no but we can still be friends, hug? " She smiled at me.

'Oh my goodness, look at her set of pure white teeth'. Just then the bell for classes went and I snapped out of my thoughts.

"C'mon let's go to class ." Cora said dragging me along, once I saw the students by the hallway looking at us with the face that seems to say;

'What the heck is Cora doing ' I instantly hopped to class with Cora.
