Aria woke in a cold sweat, her heart pounding in her chest. The room around her was still dark, but the night had shifted, something had changed. The air felt thick, charged with a strange energy, like the atmosphere itself had been altered by forces beyond her understanding. Her body ached, every muscle sore as though she had been running for miles. She shifted under the covers, and a low growl slipped from her throat, surprised, even terrified by the sound. Her heart skipped in fear, but before she could process what had happened, the pain in her limbs intensified. It was a burning, a deep ache that radiated from her core and spread outward, making her whole body feel as if it were on fire. Gasping, she threw the covers off and sat up, her hands gripping the sides of the bed as the sensation tightened around her chest. No, no, no... She thought she was still dreaming, her mind tangled in a nightmare she couldn’t wake from. Her breath quickened as she stumbled to the mirror across the room, her reflection blurry, her face pale. She barely recognized the woman staring back at her, her pupils were dilated, and her skin flushed with fever. It was then that she noticed the faint ripple of veins beneath her skin, pulsing With an unnatural glow. “What’s happening to me?” she whispered, her voice trembling. This can’t be real. It just can’t be. The transformation was happening. Before she could fully grasp the gravity of it, Ethan’s voice sounded from behind her, deep and steady. “It’s starting.” Aria spun around to see him standing in the doorway, his presence as commanding as it was calming. Despite the panic rising in her chest, there was something about him, something she couldn’t explain that made her feel... tethered. Not safe, not exactly, but connected, like a thread was pulling her toward him, and she couldn’t fight it, even if she wanted to. He crossed the room quickly, his movements smooth and graceful, like a predator in the wild. “It’s normal. You’re starting the change.” “I—” Her voice faltered, trying to find words to match the turmoil inside. “I don’t know how to... how to control this. It hurts.” “Don’t fight it,” Ethan said gently, his tone unwavering. He placed a hand on her shoulder, and for a moment, the heat from his touch spread through her, grounding her in a way she couldn’t explain. “The pain is part of the process. Your body is adjusting to its new nature. It will pass. Just Breathe. Trust yourself.” Aria tried to focus on his words, but the pain was becoming unbearable. She let out a low whine, the sound foreign, almost animalistic. Her hands clenched into fists, nails digging into her palms, as she fought to hold herself together. But the pressure in her chest only grew stronger, and a powerful force seemed to surge through her body, pushing her forward. “Ethan,” she gasped, “I don’t know how to—” Before she could finish, her body trembled violently. The burn in her limbs became too much, and she collapsed to her knees, gasping for air. The world around her seemed to blur, and she felt her senses sharpen—every sound was amplified, every scent was overwhelming, and she could feel her heart racing faster than ever before. “Aria,” Ethan’s voice cut through the chaos, grounding her once more. He knelt beside her, his eyes never leaving her. “Focus on me. You’re strong. I’m here.” Her head spun, and for a moment, she felt a pull inside of her, a sharp ache that was more than physical. It was as if something ancient was awakening within her, stirring beneath her skin, calling to her. The world outside felt irrelevant, she was only aware of him, of Ethan. He was a part of this transformation, a part of what was happening to her. She could feel it. His very presence seemed to ignite something in her, a hunger, a need. “Ethan, what’s happening?” she gasped again, barely able to hold herself upright. He ran a hand through his hair, his expression fierce, yet strangely tender as he watched her struggle. “You’re becoming what you were always meant to be,” he said softly. “A werewolf. But the process... it’s different for each of us.” Her breath hitched as she felt her teeth elongate, sharp and jagged. Her senses felt like they were exploding—she could hear every creak of the wood in the cabin, every rustle of the wind outside. She could even smell his scent—the earth, the musk, the faint trace of wildness—and it made her pulse quicken. Then the transformation reached its peak. A sudden rush of strength surged through her, her body trembling as if her very bones were shifting. She clenched her fists, her nails now impossibly sharp, and in the mirror, she saw the glowing golden light of her eyes—the same color as Ethan’s. Her mouth opened in a silent scream as the transformation finally took hold, the burning sensation giving way to something else—something raw, untamed, and primal. Aria looked at Ethan, eyes wide with both fear and awe. “What... am I?” Her voice came out rough, barely above a whisper. Ethan met her gaze, his eyes filled with understanding and something deeper, something protective. “You’re one of us now, Aria. You’re not just human anymore.”
